The Barnet home game seems odd to me - anything other than a higher division side for the home games throws me...just as the Newport game last season.

No it isn't. We asked them about changing the date but it's not possible. The game will be screened in the lounge.
A real shame that. Being on a Tuesday night would have probably halved the crowd from a Saturday anyway but you can probably halve that again. But if the ground is booked for the bowls club on the other nights what can you do?

It's made national news! (Well, the local news section of a national news website, anyway...)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-northamptonshire-44658799

This does seem rather silly. They got over 1000 people there for the game last year. That's a 1000 people paying on the gate, most buying multiple drinks and many buying burgers. That's a significant amount of revenue for a club like Sileby. You'd think the poxy bowls club would recognise this and swap a day with them; I can't believe every evening has a competitive bowls match going on and surely it's in the interests of all tenants of the ground to see that sort of income boost?

Mind you, you can hear the old buggers whinging now, can't you? "We couldn’t possibly move any of our events. We didn't move for the Germans in world war 2, we're certainly not going to budge for a load of football fans...."

Everyone knew the potential dates of England's World Cup games way before the pre season fixture was announced.

Which makes you wonder why, St albans away july 7th 3pm clashes with a potential quarter final, and Chelmsford away july 11th 1945 pm clashes with a potential semi final. Somebody somewhere, did not do their homework.

I imagine the hosts, who are banking on some travelling fans spending ££ in bars do.  Sileby must certainly be regetting it, I had Tue 3rd marked before a ball had been kicked at the World Cup.... never miss Sileby pre-season, but will be now... many others to do the same

I can imagine his face if one of his players talks about the England game whilst sat on the bench on Tuesday.

It's a fairly uninspiring set of friendlies this year. I only normally do Sileby and maybe one against a decent Championship side but Sileby is a no due to the England clash and we don't face any decent opposition. I've had all the possible World Cup dates earmarked since the draw so the fixture schedulers here could have arranged the friendlies better.

TBF it's a bit of a minefield arranging friendlies around a World Cup. Perhaps that's why there's only a couple of home ones?

Wonder if Sileby could have compensated the bowls club, moved the fixture and still made cash. It's a shame as weekend match at Sileby would have been well attended and could perhaps have kicked it off in the gap between fixtures, say 5pm when the heat of the day has subsided.

maybe you should email the club (or all clubs professional and otherwise) to put all friendlies on hold until the world cup has finished?!

It's hardly difficult.

Most fans will be mainly interested in the England games, therefore avoiding the dates of six possible outcomes after the Group stage wouldn't take a genius to work out. I know, I managed to rework my rota around all group and potential knockout games.

Good reasoning - was there any effort by Sileby Management to contact the Bowls Club? That's a rhetorical query by the way. Also we had issues with the Bowls Club behind the Spion Cop particularly in the 1960's.

My loyalty lies with NTFC, always has over England. However, if you are asking about the Cobblers winning a friendly away at Sileby or England progressing in the knockout stage, then my eyes will be on England...much like any sane Englishman.

ETA: Seven of us were heading to the Sileby game. That number now stands at nil!

10 of us went last year, that dropped to 4 when it was scheduled for a Tuesday and now down to nil!
