This has to be the biggest day/night out for all true Clarets, surely?

Remember Tony Hately's return to Meadow Lane in November 1970?  21,000 for Division 4's 1st (them) and 2nd (us) teams.  Outrageously non-PC jokes about the Cobblers and their supporters by the announcer.  Ref, who was clearly used to posing in front of 3,000, went to jelly.  Special train up the old Market Harborough line (to explain to those aged less than 50, there used to be a jolly useful railway line up what is now the Brampton Valley Way).

This in the days when studs were (sometimes) still hammered into the soles of football boots by nails; and some unscrupulous teams used to leave the nail heads exposed to cause maximum damage on contact with opposing players' lower limbs.  Hence, why linesmen started to run their hands over the boots of subs as they were about to take the filed........

When I was in my prime, there was what is now called an "Urban Myth" that Nottingham girls had the biggest chests.  I am still looking for my booty of gold.....   Grin

That’s interesting. I didn’t realise the train went out via the Halt line. That train journey, the whole day and how events planned out on the way to, on the terrace and pitch take some beating for a day at the football and Iwas only 10.
Been living up here in Nottingham for 26 years now and I still can’t stand County, I have rarely enjoyed a game there as they just about always beat us. I think I have only seen us win there twice since 1970.

Can't remember the year but I was at Notts when we lost 1-3 and, due to the postponement of their game at Derby, Liverpool fans keen to see some footy joined us in the away end. I remember we sang 'What's it like to see a crowd' to them!

I can remember playing County the day we signed Alec Ashworth who they thought was bound for them. They had a ruffian playing for them called Gibson and spent the whole game fouling Ashworth whenever he could. Pretty sure we lost too. Must have been 1963 or 4.

January 1988, Notts County has a massive bank of terracing that was divided into a few ‘cages’, back then with fencing down the side and in front of the fans.
I thought we had one section and they opened another section for the Liverpool fans next to us....

He died later that season, just before the big, wet and trouble ridden game on the Friday night at the Goldstone Ground (att: 14,000).

Actually thought the shirts were rubbish ( as was the said ridiculous shout/chant). Yellow is just a generic away colour for Sunday league teams, upwards!

I remember coming home that Friday night and us driving past a terrible accident. Didn't realise at the time it involved Cobblers fans who died in it, 2 I think from memory. We got to the game 30 minutes late, stuck in traffic, lost 3-0…then the events afterwards.
