https://www.ntfc.co.uk/news/2018/june/andy_todd/Northampton Town have appointed Andy Todd as the club's new assistant manager. Todd, who had a spell on loan at the club as a player in the 2008/09 season, also represented Middlesbrough, Swindon Town, Bolton Wanderers, Charlton Athletic, Grimsby Town, Blackburn Rovers, Burnley, Derby County, Oldham Athletic and Hereford United as a player, while he has also been assistant manager at Linfield and Newport County and in October 2016 he was appointed the first team coach at Blackpool and helped the Seasiders win promotion from League 2 during his first season. "Andy is a key addition and I am delighted to have him alongside me as my assistant," said manager Dean Austin. "Andy is someone I know well, he has a wealth of experience in the game and has all the qualities to help us improve our talented squad. "The fact that we have been able to bring him to the club is very much our gain. He played a big part in what was generally a successful time for Blackpool as he helped them win promotion from League 2 as recently as 2017 and then helped them consolidate in League 1 last season. "He has great knowledge alongside that recent experience of getting out of League 2 and he and I are both very excited by the challenge ahead this season."

I think that is a good appointment . I have a good feeling about the way Austin goes about his business. So much depends on what players we can keep and potentially bring in though .

Rather mixed CV. Some disciplinary issues in his past? Not sure about this appointment but we will see.

In the few games he had with us he was pretty impressive. Should imagine his attitude will be good also.

Kyle Walker said recently that playing alongside AT at NTFC was one of the key stages of his development. He really emphasised how much AT helped him as a young pro making his way in first team football, and something certainly worked as he's doing ok with his career right now. On that basis, I think this is a good appointment.

Prized him away from Blackpool, who let him go due to family reasons it seems...
Bowyer was certainly sorry to see Todd leave Blackpool.
“Andy has been a really strong and valuable addition to my coaching staff here at Blackpool,” said the Seasiders boss.
“You only have to look at some of the work he has done with the defenders, particularly Clark Robertson and Curtis Tilt, to see the impact he has had.
“Having said that, family is always an important consideration in every decision you make and we fully understand and support his reasons for making this one.
“On behalf of everyone at the club, I’d like to place on record my thanks to Andy and wish him every success for the future.”

Pleased with this appointment, the defence was awful last season. HOPEFULLY we'll be a lot more organised at the back this season. Welcome Andy.

So far so good it seems.
Haven't conceded a goal since he's joined. Thought you'd be very happy with his appointment.

What is the point of an assistant manager, judging by the changes after DA took over he had no say in tactics, team selection or anything else apparently and not the first by far over a number of years to say that his views were ignored by the manager

Did you have the same opinion of Alan Knill?

Maybe his experiences with JFH will make Austin more willing to work with an assistant rather than ignoring him.

After hearing him in his latest interview I think he could be the new Jimmy Tarbuck!

Not as far as I know, but with Andys banter and carisma the variety performance is surely calling.

I don’t think sense of humour and banter are the primary qualities that I’m looking for in a coach/assistant manager.
