Its sad watching what was a decent competition that culminated with exciting area semis, area finals and a Wembley final descend into a farce thats now into a 3rd year boycott.
Its obvious that non football people ( good God they get everywhere😉) have been given the task a re jig it and in doing so have destroyed it.
How would you go about rescuing it and make it exciting to watch?
Well heres mine, turn it into an anglo scottish tournament leages 1 and 2 and scottish premier and championship.
Those clubs involved in eufa cup comps can opt out.
groups of four, top teams qualify then knock out.
Finals alternate between hampden and wembley..
Anyone?

I think they should give League 1/2 clubs the option whether to enter or not like they give the choice to the Under 23s. Would be interesting to see how many would enter if they were given the choice.

Not sure I like the idea of stretching it out to Scotland - I can't imagine many would like the idea of Hamilton Academicals away on a Tuesday night!

they make money out of it

I would question how much the club would actually make for the cost of putting a game on vs the revenue from it. Especially with the tiny crowds that turn up.

Anybody hazard a guess at the figures?

so a good run with increased gate receipts is very much worth it

hopefully as we progress those that boycott the early games as martyrs wont be allowed to the later games / final.

Not martyrs, just not mugs.

The Elite Player Performance Plan for youth development makes B Teams presence in the Checkatrade a p iss take quite frankly.

NTFC have lost at least 4 talented youth players to richer clubs via EPPP. Fees are capped. Clubs have always relied upon selling a player a season to balance the books yet this may be constricted by losing players before we can develop them.

Have a look at how the Premier League got EPPP voted through.

How much are we losing from sell on value for full grown homegrown talent compared to crumbs from this tournament?

So now not only do we face losing our best youth talent the EFL Trophy has to be changed to accommodate PL sides because of their problems with blooding the very type of players they are taking off us. And those players can line up against us potentially denying us a trip to Wembley.

This is one thing that clued up fans are sticking together on and fair play.

So we have the revenue figures, what about the cost to the club of putting on a game?

Ask the accountant/CEO guy at the club. Also ask him about the revenue from the ticket sales.

Have to laugh at the use of ‘Martyrs’. £20k just for participating!

In fairness I don't think finances are what most have an issue with when it comes to this competition in its current guise.

I'm actually quite pro Englands top talent joining the countries top youth clubs.

I personally don't bother with this terrible competition because it's such an effort to make a midweek game to watch a semi serious game of football.
