Or he might just have said.. Yes I'm close to knowing my starting eleven, subject to injury and transfers. Instead he gave a good impression of JFH.
Not at all, his response keeps people on their toes, if he states publicly that he knows his starting XI (which he knows privately) where is the motivation for those who have a good idea if they are in or out. We all have our preferred XI now, as does Austin, only difference is he can’t announce it. Mine would be as below, but I reckon 4 or 5 of these don’t want to be here or won’t be here in a few week time. ..............Goff.............. Facey..Taylor..Pierre.Buchs ........JJOT..McWilliams..... Crooks....Morais....Powell ............Williams...........

I notice you are beginning to spread your wings a bit more recently - can we anticipate your 'theories' on points for the season? Pretty sure one or two, even three are eagerly awaiting your predictions.

If we keep this squad, 80+ is currently 4/1 I’m tempted.

Genuinely think that this 11 would be a top 3 team.

You just like an argument for the sake of it. In what way does stating publicly that he's close to knowing his starting eleven without stating more than that, give anyone else a Scooby as to his team. Tell you what, I've just replaced Austin as Town manager and I'm about to play my first game of the season, I'm sure of nine of my eleven starters but haven't told my assistant, any of my players or Gareth. So come on Nostradamus, read my mind and tell me my team.

Same as mine minus Goff and Powell. You’re welcome.

The last time we had this kind of discourse and before you were picked up for a ridiculous assertion that Oldham at home wouldn't be our hardest game of the season if we needed to win it, you were forecasting 22? points from our final 14? games and a near mid table finish. This time around you didn't even get my preferred formation. I look forward to your new jigsaw, together with your predictions and erm, projections. Have a good season C78.

No idea kid, I'd know what my finishing eleven was last season, but I've not been to training and I've had a couple of jars. Are Morais and Morris any good? Ask me again end of August.

Exactly, Austin has, so he knows how he'd start the season. The problems arise if we lose 4 or 5 first team players before the start of the season (Taylor, Crooks, JJOT, McWilliams, Facey) even though its pretty obvious if they're fit they start, but Austin can let them slip into the comfort zone and needs the squad players to think they have a sniff.

So what happens once a ball has been kicked in anger? Does Austin have to remain all stupid and claim he doesn't know what his side will be the following week in post match interviews in case the lovies go all soft on him or does he name his eleven a week early, certain that will be the spur for squad players to show him that bit extra inctraining in an attempt to break into the team? I'm afraid I'd prefer the manager to at least give the impression he knows what he's going for be doing. It must be a very fragile world you live in C78. Oh, for Morris read Williams.

. Glad you corrected Morris to Williams’s! For me after seeing Williams at least twice so far this month, very much undecided.

Regards your starting eleven, with what we have atm: I would play Cornell, i see him as a sub standard Adam Smith. Prone to at least one error per game but mainly capable. I didnt rate Coddington in the one game I saw him play last season, i kmow nothing of Goff only what I've read on here and that is no basis to pick him. Defensively I'd play Taylor and Pierre with Turnbull left ahead of Bucs on the strength of Blackburn away. I didnt take to Facey in the way the majority did last season but I know nothing of 'Dolphin'. ( If Phillips was fit and still on the books i'd have him in ahead of Facey). If I could special team Barnett for corners and set pieces he'd be coming on every time. In midfield I'd be forced to play McWilliams Crooks and JJ because individually they are too good to leave out, even though that is far from ideal. Maybe a rotating diamond as has been mentioned. Regards the rest, i suppose Hoskins currently joins Powell as our other 'wide' man even though I've never rated him, but here could be a case for playing both. Foley would be first named sub unless we were playing 442 in which case he'd complete the four. Up front i saw nothing of Waters that impressed me last season, ditto Hoskins as a striker, and we effectively have another three new faces in Williams Morias and VVeen that I'm unable to pass judgement on. That doesn't help at all does it
