I think we bossed the game and should have had it wrapped up in the 1st half.

The comments from the Lincoln fan regarding our support makes interesting reading, and I actually agree with most of it.

I believe the success of the championship winning campaign was as much to do with the togetherness of the team and the fans as it was to do with the quality on the pitch.

I made this point on the way home on Saturday. At the moment, it doesn't 'feel right' in the stands. At all. The hangover from last season is VERY evident.

We need something to kick that into touch. Dean Austin's famous interview about hunting straight after we beat Plymouth last season stirred everyone up, as an example.

It all felt a bit flat on Saturday, but the weather was a big reason for that i guess! We also need 3 points asap, which goes without saying. Otherwise the confidence issues from last season will quickly re-appear.

I heard yesterday that Forest were looking to loan out Gboly Ariyibi again this season. Worth a look?

Considering DA cancelled his loan deal early when he was named caretaker manager, I doubt it.

I think it only got cancelled due to season ending hamstring problem. Not due to lack of commitment ie Periera?

Yeah Rotherham. Similiar neck of the woods.

Oh ok, I think even a Championship club (albeit one that would be happy with survival) would be looking at better caliber of players than Crooks. Just my opinion though.

Would snap your hand off if we could get Ariyibi back but i think he is definitely good enough for a decent league 1 side. I think it was injury that cut his time here short, it was just infuriating when he got brought on JFH would ask him to play centrally instead of out wide!

Obviously wasn't that "season ending" as the player went on to make appearances for Forests U23 side in the Professional Development League, the first of them was only 2 weeks after he returned to Forest.

Taken a bit of time to reflect before I posted after the game but I think I can summarise as follows:

1) League 2 football is a major step down in quality on league 1
2) We massively lack quality at the top of the pitch and out wide. Even when we were rock bottom just before CW arrived we had Chris Hackett who could reliably beat a man and cross a ball.
3) Midfielders (McWilliams, O'Toole & Crooks) all look like serious players in this league.
4) As a team we are still as brittle as we were last season. A team of serial losers take as a long time to turn in to serial winners.

Last point - I am very surprised that nobody has called out Buchanan for failing to stop the cross that lead to the goal.

Think somebody mentioned it - lost/forgotten in the anti Taylor stampede.

We really do need to sort out the set-piece issue and get someone decent taking them. For too long we've wasted numerous chances with our consistently poor set-pieces, including all throughout last season when Grimes took them, and the second half of 2016/17 when Matt Taylor was on dead-ball duty.

Hoskins quite clearly isn't up to it on the free-kicks, and Buchanan's corners leave something to be desired. Is it seriously the case that Crooks, O'Toole and Andy Williams are all incapable of hitting a dead-ball?

Morgan Roberts is said to be a set-piece specialist- I'd like him to play some sort of role (even if it's from the bench) against Carlisle so we can see for ourselves whether he has the ability to hit set-pieces significantly more adeptly than Hoskins and Buchanan can. If so, then there is a fairly strong case for having him in the side!

Pretty sure Roberts will be involved Saturday ... We have to comply with the new FA rule of having a player who has come through the acadamy in the 18 ... I think

EFL teams must name 'club-developed' player on matchdays from 2018-19 - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39517843

Didn’t know about that rule. I’d guess that means the likes of Roberts, Whaler, Williams won’t be able to go out on loan in case they need to fill that slot. I hope sticking around here means they still get a decent amount of football.

They could just name 6 subs or any of the youth team to fill it

McWilliams would have been the box ticker

Yep all true I guess. I don’t suppose it will have a huge impact, Austin seemingly could have had 2 youth teasers instead of Waters & KvV at the weekend  Grin

Best line I have read about the game was on another forum by a Lincoln fan. "There goalie was in more danger of sunburn than the Lincoln attack".
