Fickle? Tbf, they've travelled nearly 300 miles (or more for some of us!) and are the same ones getting the only atmosphere in the whole ground going! Apart from the period after equalising, was a very poor, disjointed performance - almost as bad as Shrewsbury away last season! Carlisle also (on yesterday's evidence) even poorer, but almost handed a win on a plate in the closing minutes.
Cornell was pretty good imo, dominant and confident, though his eagerness to throw out immediately, also nearly cost us!
Those yellow and red shirts are an abomination...yellow is the new orange! The sheep who have bought them...what were you thinking, you looked like...
Fickle in as much as they were chanting after only 20-25 minutes! Is that enough time to make a judgement? Similarly when we went 2-1 up we heard the e-i-e-i-e-i-o song!! Over reacting both ways!! And yes they were calling for Waters and then shouting at him within 5 mins of his appearance!! True enough they were making noise, but that sort of noise was hardly encouraging. As for the little kid who was constantly shouting...how annoying, yet funny!! I too made the long trip, 14 hour day by train! It was an entertaining game, but low on quality, and I suppose what we should realistically expect in league 2.

Our biggest weak link by far was in the right back position. Based on yesterdays game, the new lad was Ashley Corker-esque! He just couldn't defend basically, and they targeted his side throughout. He was also very close to getting himself sent off.
I got crucified for saying similar last week. Poor first touch, poor distribution and never knows where to be positionally. I understand he's our young/cheap reserve right back... But frustrating to watch none the less. I think what is currently paining me the most, is our set pieces. Bafflingly some of our fans celebrated Grimes leaving so we'd have different set pieces. We now have Hoskins on corners, and Taylor on freekicks! Always be careful what you wish for. I was pleased to see van Veen getting off the mark in a cobblers shirt yesterday. Clearly a class act, and the more reserved fans understood he was injured for much of the his time with us last season. Thankfully KT didn't sell KvV and Crooks cheaply.. We'd have lost 2-0 Hopefully we start picking up points soon. Nothing is convincing me we'll have a good season so far.

Slightly different view on the game yesterday and maybe an unpopular but I think the formation is to blame for that not being 3 points. Carlisle were there for the taking yesterday and for everyone saying they need time - 7 starting 11 played together last season so should already be playing like a unit.
Our wingers look like they have been told to stay high up the pitch so it left mountains of space between our forward line and defence with the JJOT and Crooks stuck in two minds whether to support the attack or protect the defence. We werebasically 4-2-4. If we continue with that formation, we need at least 1 of the strikers to be willing to drop a bit deeper and that didn’t happen yesterday so I would rather an extra man in midfield. Foley alongside Crooks for now - we signed Foley as a central midfielder and from memory he has only played one game in that position so think he should be given a chance before he is written off. This would allow JJOT to play behind the front man where he was so effective last season. This would make us more secure in the middle of the park and then use the pace of Waters and Powell to unlock defences.

The subs also made us weaker, this is the 3rd game I've seen on the trot where this has happened. Walsall away, last week and yesterday. I didn't go to the Oldham game at the end of last season. This is my only really concern with Dean Austin at the moment.
Comepletely agree, this is also my real concern with Austin but eesh, who’d be a manager? Last week he was criticised for not making a change, this week the opposite. I think, unless you’re winning the game all subs should be used in an effort to get the points, some will work, some won’t I guess.

My local game yesterday being a nice 5 minute walk from home. thought we looked good in spells but lacked creativity. Back 4 I actually thought looked solid and was impressed with Van Veen and Williams up front. We desperately need some wingers in the team, when we went up last time we were very average when Holmes and Adams weren’t playing and it felt the same yesterday. A couple of quality players out wide would make a world of difference

Cornell obviously at fault for the first arguably the second also. Neither goal was anywhere near the posts in fact the first he managed todive out of the way. We win 2-0 with either Ingram or O Donnell in goal. I’ve never seen a keeper beaten with such regularity from 20 yds plus. Whilst he plays we’re going nowhere

We will leave it to you to get us going GPC I did have a chuckle when I heard it....but was using it in the post to highlight the fickle nature yesterday, credit to you for at least trying to create a bit of atmosphere...it’s wasnt like the home fans made an effort was it?! We are missing creativity on the pitch, someone to grab hold of the game and run it from the middle. O’Toole and Crooks were often side by side with a big void in front or behind them...Hoskins is no winger and Powell had a quiet game. Buchanan isn’t going to bomb up and down the wing and Odoffin looks like a fish out of water. Thought the forwards did ok without really looking dangerous and cornell was not really called into action. Considering they hit the post and had a double penalty shout turned down at the death I suppose we should be glad of a point, but holding on at the end against the likes of Carlisle United doesn’t really signify that a successful season is on the cards.

I'm not happy with a point away at Carlisle. Why should we be?

Sorry if this doesn't fit the Cornell narrative on here, but both goals were clearly down to issues in midfield. Hoskins wasn't tight enough on his man to stop the quickly worked free kick and then there was a lack of tracking back/robust challenging from O'Toole and Crooks for the second. (It has to be said that Oddofin should have done better to track Hope's run on this one aswell.)
Having said that, there was some very good football going forward from us.
I'd like to see Austin dip into the loan market to sign a tough-tackling defensive midfield back up for McWilliams and a left winger that can take set pieces.

Foley more than adequate back up BUT left winger definitely!

I haven't got as much of a downer on foley as many on here but I don't know if I'd describe him as tough tackling or a midfield general.

The problem with Cornel is that he dosnt make "saves"..... i know some wont understand this statment but its the "wow" saves or the "he's got us out the shat" saves he dosnt make
Think Smith, Ingram and ROD, they all made those kind of saves.
DC is decent on pennos, ill give him that

Usually agree in full with your comments Bungle, but we see this one very differently. I thought they actually moved the ball quickly and incisively to create the opportunity for the 2nd goal. Then Cornell 8 yards off his line in that situation = No man’s land. Happy to accept earlier comments from elsewhere that his kicking is great and his handling yesterday was good, but if you or anybody else on here can explain to me how for the first goal a shot from 25 yards goes into the middle of the goal and the keeper is not at fault, I’ll be eager to learn how.

See, I don’t think it is the wow saves that are the issue. Not making routine saves, or even getting close to making them, is the issue.

Is this squad really good enough to make a challenge ? Surely , we have to get a proper wide player in on loan as well as a dead ball specialist . Facey and McWilliams certainly will strengthen us but I don’t think we have enough at the minute .

We are still incredibly unbalanced but with the cast of thousands I should think it's unlikely that we're going to be able to strengthen significantly.
