I'm an ex keeper. OK not league standard but I spent some time with some decent coaches.

The first goal, I think if everyone is awake it probably never happens. The quick free kick should not have even been on but once it's played, we're on the back foot. From its to taking to back of the net is no time at all. If the strike for the goal had been a free kick, even with no wall, Cornell saves it all day.

Whilst I think he'll be disappointed not to have got anything on it (I would be) I wouldn't call it a goalkeeping error.

The second goal is more of a mystery. He must have his angles all wrong to get beat by a shot of that (non) pace from that distance. This is more akin to an error, he seems to have lost his bearings completely, or maybe just dives late. Either way, he should be saving that all day.

He should have thrown his metaphorical cap on the second one, terrible keeping.

Take a look at the behind the goal video's from Wolvo and/or Deepcut - do you wish to retract your statement. I am talking about their second goal.

Ah well clearly a miscommunication as I was talking about the first. Yes fair enough it isn’t quite down the middle (the first) going on that video. Hold my hands up. Still think a better, or larger, keeper like Ward stops at least the first one.

How about the fact we have won just 2 league games that he has started for us. Or the fact in 13 league starts, he has conceded 27 goals so averages more than 2 a game?

Edited to add that I do think the criticism of him for Saturday is unfair. The actual issue for both goals was the fact no-one in the team tried to tackle or pressure Carlisle at any point.

Those defensive stats must be as bad as Dean Austins  Evil

Let it go!! Cornell is a goalkeeper for a 4th division football team...he isn’t Premier League, although some of the comments on here seem to expect him to be!!

I’m only comparing him to other 4th Div GK’s.

Why are you called Defender then? Surely you should be called Keeper? Your username is very misleading.
