We take on Wycombe Wanderers in the first round of the League Cup (or the Carabao Cup as it's less commonly known) at Adams Park on Tuesday 14th August in our first midweek game of the season.

This is the first of two games we will play against Wycombe this season, as we have also been drawn in the same group as them in the Checkatrade Trophy.

TEAM NEWS: Dean Austin has said that Shay Facey and Junior Morias are both now fit and will feature. Lewis Ward is a doubt with a hand injury. Shaun McWilliams is definitely out with a hamstring injury, although he may be ready to come back into the team by Saturday, according to Austin.

Head to Head: Our overall record against Wycombe is P30 W10 D13 L7.

Form this season: Wycombe DL  Cobblers LD

Last time round: Cobblers 0-3 Wycombe (Checkatrade Trophy, 30th August 2016)

Odds: Wycombe 23/20, Cobblers 12/5, Draw 23/10 (BETFRED)

Predictions? Will Austin make changes or keep the core of the team the same as it has lined up against Lincoln and Carlisle?

My prediction for the team DA puts out;

The best he can - given our massive wage bill and no movements out we need to progress and get some decent monies in. Get through this round and we might draw a big team and sell out at home or draw one of the big sides that draw an attendance whatever the opposition.

Wycombe took a hammering this afternoon (Marquis scoring one) and still haven't scored this season. Let's take advantage.

I hope Morias and facey get done minutes and put themselves into contention for Saturday - we need them both.

Pretty sure those were the two who he said "would feature" on BBC Radio Northampton, whether that is from the bench or starting was TBC.

Hopefully see if Barnett & Pierre are a decent partnership.

DA made clear that some of the fringe players would be involved against Wycombe. It's very important IMHO that not too many changes are made, so that players can develop an understanding. Hopefully Facey and Morias will both play. Personally I'd like to see Foley given a full game in centre midfield too. I think he's a good player, who hasn't been given much of a chance despite being signed over a year ago. He has not started many games, has mostly been played out of position and has still done OK despite all that.

Completely agree, seems a bit bizarre that we sign a striker for a fee that needs 2 months to get fit, hope he's worth it

Fully expect Foley to take the injured O'Tools place in midfield. Should have obviously done so against Carlisle also.

Got a sneaky feeling for a Town win here with Junior off the bench to nick the winner.

Assume we'll see Ward, Foley, Waters and Facey play, possibly Bowditch too.

1-0 Cobblers.

I can see these guys playing tonight, I'd  also add that Turnbull, Morias and Barnett may well play some part of the game too. Chance for thwm to Impress before Saturdays game.

Ward starts then. Pierre is rested and Akinfenwa is on the Wycombe bench, so we won't get to see the 'Pierre VS Akinfenwa' match-up.

Along with Pierre, four other first-teamers are rested- Odoffin, O'Toole, Andy Williams and Powell.
