/Attendance 1,999 with 427 Cobblers
Thought 727 seemed unbelievable!
Getting on for nearly 300 Torquay at Oxford City tonight!

So basically, if Cornell had played, we'd have won!  Tongue

I am happy to let you wonder all you like, as long as I am stirring something in your diminishing grey matter that's job done for me.

Too late obviously!

Only six subs named by us?

Still interested to know why this was, did someone drop out at the last minute? If so who was it?

Chron mentioned Cam McWilliams would have been on the bench but picked up an injury. Still odd they didn’t replace him with Odoffin though.

Cornell sitting with the fans, wonder how many give him stick to his face?  Cheesy

None hopefully - especially after seeing Ward in goal tonight!

Why oh why oh why oh why oh why oh why is Taylor taking our penalties and attacking free kicks?!?!?!?!?!?! Worse than Harry Kane taking corners!!!

Only missed 1 in 25 (or 27) pre-season according to DA, and is #2 penalty taker for the season behind McWilliams.

Pen tonight was fairly well placed, not too much wrong with it.

I've nothing against Cornell this season so far (aside from his distribution) and don't get the blame some have put his way after Carlisle.

Won't write Ward off on one showing, but not convinced tonight, seemed nervy, didn't control area and then was poor in the shootout.

If ward is not up to scratch we really are f***ed!

Imagine having 3 keepers all not good enough to be number 1 and a young kid on the books.

Piss poor show if that's the case on Austins part

I don't know who would be to blame!! A rookie manager with no league experience can't really judge how a rookie goalkeeper with no league experience would perform in the league!

It amuses me somewhat...Cornell has never done much wrong, but has never looked spectacular in the way Adam Smith, Richard O'Donnell, Matt Ingram and others have done at times. He's just a steady Eddie playing for a fourth division football club.
Yet many were clamouring for a keeper with not a single league game under his belt, (26 games for Aldershot last season, 10 clean sheets, 22 goals conceded) to replace him!

That said....Cornell has played 24 competitive games for us, keeping just two clean sheets and letting in 42 goals.........

The supposed “clamour” is a result of Cornell’s short comings, not over hyped belief in Ward.

A lack of a experience is not an issue if he is good enough. I wasn’t there tonight though so I can’t comment on Ward. Cornell has had three cracks at holding down the No1 spot now and just does not seem up to it. If Ward is not an upgrade we will lose further games needlessly.

Slating his performance in a penalty shoot out smacks of a desperation to be proven right though. Keith Welch was terrible on penalties and Mark Bunn wasn’t much better.

By the way, Hoskin’s has started on the right in both League games.

All depends on whose available, any signing has to be a significant improvement on what you have already got? Absolutely no point in signing more of the same, been there, done that.

My first game watching the Cobblers this season (not even been to a pre-season game this year). Some random thoughts from my perspective (sat with the Wycombe supporters about 15 yards the other side of the Half Way line from where most of our supporters were);

Ward looked very uncertain and was rash a number of times (their supporters certainly "enjoyed" his performance). Never looked like saving any of their penalties. Mackail-Smith's blaze over the bar was the worst penalty of all. At least Hoskins hit the post and Turnbull's was saved. Taylor's penalty in the 2nd half was far too easy to read.

The back four were impressive, Facey accomplished and Turnbull looked very assured. There was a ten minute spell after Wycombe scored when panic seemed to set in but composure was restored thereafter.

The Midfield - some good interplay and certainly matched the competitiveness of their opponents and took the game to them. Crooks occasionally switches off/gives up when he needs to recover.

Waters and Morias - ran themselves ragged and created a couple of chances for themselves. They harried Wycombe's defence and gave them plenty to think about. Both would have benefited from a taller forward knocking balls on for them.

Overall - this side is a better one than any of the teams we put out in our last spell in this Division bar the one that finally got us promotion.

One very bitter point - their goalkeeper's antics in the penalty shootout delaying penalties being taken whilst he got his hair right and his shiny red gloves back on - repellant.

It is safe to say the set pieces are a problem  Grin I expect to see Cornell take throw ins next week.

I jokingly said that Taylor would take the pen when we were given it and couldn't believe that I was correct. Taylor as second choice penalty taker  Grin f**king hell.

DA's decision making is bizarre to say the least, Hoskins as set piece and corner taker and Taylor on pens......Cornell will get him sacked it's like de ja vu.

I don’t really care if Taylor has scored 25 out of 27 penalties in training - a striker/attacking player should be taking then all day long, someone who is actually used to shooting/scoring goals. Likewise with the set pieces/attacking free kicks - Taylor shouldn’t be anywhere near them, he needs to be on the end of them. This set piece thing smacks of lack of preparation to me.
