Can anyone explain what he has done wrong, look solid to me and a decent left back, against Wycombe second half looked to get forward, is he suffering from just being out of favour, I don't understand why he wouldn't offer something better at the back

Maybe you should be asking if we have a player called "Turnball"?  Grin

Turnbull must feel a bit fed up, sat on the bench despite playing well when called upon and watching terrible performances from his teammates at both CB and LB.

Beats me. I feel similar about Waters and Williams. What do they need to do to get a run in the team?

As we and Austin are finding out performances in training often don't translate to competitive play as they are in many ways entirely different and the ability to perform when it matters in any sport is what separates many competitors.

Also if they're not impressing the manager in training then what is Austin doing to make said players perform better?

The Turnbull signing was a massive mistake . He is one of the three top paid players at the club and just isnít that great .
Waters is a mystery . He seems to have an eye for goal and does okay when he plays .
Successive managers though have not rated him and so there must be something he lacks . Surely he is an option on Hoskins who should certainly have been subbed on Saturday .

No clue what goes on in training, but Buchanan keeps his position through rhetoric. From what I've seen at left back, Turnbull is better at passing, defending and going forward than Buchanan, but Buchanan is better at saying he's up for it

Nothing factual, or even a rumour - but I get the impression Buchs was key to Austin winning the changing room over.

Buchs is a leader and shows the right qualities mentally - I would say thatís why he is in the team .
Turnbull is no great shakes and doesnít offer enough to displace him .
Our full back positions are weak in all honesty and even Facey seems to let his head go down .
Itís one of the reasons we are where we are .

I know thatís yr opinion but not sure if. Turnbull is as top rated as  you make. I suspect Buchs holds his place because thatís DA opinion. I actually prefer Turnbull to Buchs and probably to Taylor as centre back.  To me there is not much form diff between them both. Some base their recall for Turnbull on a perceived anti Buchs sentiment which is not always the best way to base an opinion on.

The games he played last season he was weak and easily got knocked off the ball, remember that small Charlton midfield player (Reeves?) who scored with his head against us? He was Turnbull's man.

I think he makes a better left back than centre half, and clearly that is also how Austin sees it. But he currently isn't good enough it that position to dislodge Buchanan, he is a capable backup though.

Looking at Wikipedia suggests he is a more than adequate League 1 Left Back/Central Defender. Only 23, already played 150 league games, Player of the Season at a decent league 1 Swindon, played for both England Under 19 and Under 20. Pretty much 1st choice everywhere he's played if you check. Both times I've seen him this seaso he's looked solid and composed.

I'm not sure he's top rated, but I think he offers more than Buchanan at present.

For what it's worth I think Buchs is a great lad in the dressing room says all the right things, good pro, unfortunately time has caught up with him and he is a very ordinary left back at L2 level, Turbull has a far better pedigree and if motivated is a far better all round player.

Agree, must be down to Turnbull's attitude. I think he reportly had issues with it elsewhere?

I've always thought Bucs has been a limited footballer but who usually plays consistently close to his best.
Is that the same as being 'up for it?'.
Turnbull right from when he arrived has been the better choice for me, and I also think he could improve our central defence.

I run and my training runs are just that. When I run Parkrun I run harder than in training. I'd never get a PB in training. That's probably irrelevant but I'd thought I'd share it.

Really? I aim for fortnightly PBs in my running training. I'd never get faster/further if I didn't.
