Short corners where the ball never makes it into the box is as inexcusable as corners hitting the first man.
Michael Jacobs was very good at this. Yet, he was immune from criticism at the time. Give Curly a chance. I am sure that he is just trying things out, seeing what the players are capable of, as we seem to be devoid of set piece takers at the moment. I am also sure, that, as a member of the Wimbledon "crazy gang", he is immune to dressing room bullsh!t. IMO, he will keep us up. After that, with the addition of a new left back, and someone who knows where the back of the net is, anything could happen.

Not at all. Variety is good.

We don't have a specialist, but it should be something pretty easy to work on at the training ground.
These days looping corners to the box are considered a waste of time. You've either got to hit it beyond the goal area hoping an attacker will head it back in to the mix or shave the top of first man. This is probably the corner you hate when it's not pin point and the front man gets it. Hoskins hit it perfectly at Swindon when he crossed for JJ to tap it in - a real skill. I agree with you that short corners are generally a waste of time. The end result is usually a cross that could have been done from the start. It would be interesting to see stats that show goals from short corners.

Short corners are OK, as it gives a better angle of delivery. This is acceptable, only, if you have a lumping centre half, or a forward who can actually head a ball. Sadly, we are lacking in both.

Surely Pierre meets 'your' criteria?

Cornell has made a few really good saves of late and is due credit for those.
Hoskins - if he could finish - would be 20 goal a season attacking midfield - and playing in the Championship before long. On balance, you can see why he keeps getting picked. Noone in our midfield is pulling up trees and at least he offers some energy. He is frustrating though!

Very frustrating but certainly not helped by the vocal boo boys in the West Stand!

There are also plenty of words for people who believe they speak for absolutely everyone who goes to an away game.
I'll be nicer than you and use self righteous.
.....fair play to supporters who travel to all or most away games but the gross pomposity of certain individuals is laughable. I unashamedly go to very few away games due to an overseas posting & ifollow serves me very well and I'm minded of the view from Colchester's old ground away end and ask does a travelling fan get a better perspective of the game from there or the ifollow screen?

Sadly CW I don’t believe there is any substitute for being there in terms of a critical assessment, and this from someone who never goes obviously. You just don’t get anything like the overall view of what’s going on from the telly. Just in my opinion though, you understand?

Your completely riight Melly - the absurd pomposity of a select few who don’t go and then a post a message to justify it!

I'm there to be shot at I suppose, but I personally think that RWB could be a perfect fit for S. McWilliams.
Great energy, tenacity, some pace to get himself out of trouble if necessary, and he can make a pass or two.
Whether he can cross a ball effectively or not isn't overly relevant right now, as he wouldn't be any worse than what we have currently.
What's others opinions on this?
Pretty sure he played RB agiainst Gillingham away last year :1-2 to us!

What was the consensus on Buchs at left wing back? Sounds like his set piece delivery was pretty poor?
not answered elsewhere as far as I can see.......but I thought he did ok. He got stuck in, defended when he had to. Put in a few good deliveries, and a few poor ones...as is to be expected by a lower league player!

Towards the end he was playing more as an inside left than a LWB.

Missing the point here - no one is justifying about going or not going to away games & as I have already said, fair play to individuals who invest in both time and money to travel - I'm simply saying just because you go does not give the right to ridicule those that don't go making comments. As I also said, ifollow serves me well - agreed with Melbourne though, a monitor screen doesn't always give you an overall perspective of the game, although it certainly gives you a better view of most close quarter action than a seat in the stand.

You are missing the point as well! Only a few rather silly armchair critics who embark on OTT comments deserve the accolade you suggested. Some fans who are unable to go make quite useful comments. I have missed at least 3 away games so far. Melly is quite correct imo !

Pretty sure Michael Jacobs scored directly from a corner didn't he?

Trouble is one fan’s OTT comment is another’s rational, fair and incisive one - perhaps a bit more respect to people’s opinions (agreed with or otherwise) would make for a more pleasing debate. Irrespective of the comment I think calling someone a twat because they express a reasonably well articulated “opinion” is out of order especially when they justifiy such a comment “because they go to away games”

I think the fact he hasn't been mentioned speaks volumes. Did alright. Certainly not out of place.

You conveniently forget that the recipient of the tag ‘twat’ has I believe dished it out quite a bit himself. His duplicated email insult hardly justifies your support unless you feel two wrongs make a right?

Fair point but in reality I’m not supporting anyone here but merely suggesting polite reasoned disagreement makes for better reading than simple insults.

I was out of the country last weekend and I couldn't believe it when I saw that Matt Taylor scored against us, as he got a red card the previous Saturday. I don't think it was a second yellow, if you saw the incident on TV, he just took out the Oldham guy when he was clean through on goal, so it should be a straight red which is a 3 match ban. Anyone got the answer as to why he played or do we get onto the FA to claim the game ?
