Thoughts to Leon and all his family as he is forced to retire due to a heart condition.

Very sad news. Knew of the heart condition but not that it would end his career. Good news that he will be involved with coaching at the Club and that the academy will benefit from this.

My thoughts are with Leon and his family. He always gave everything in the games he played for us and I wish him all the best for the future. His experience can only benefit those coming into the game so its good to see that he will be staying with the club until the end of season to pass on some of that knowledge.

Sensible although tough decision but great that he will still be involved at the club. Something good might come from something bad. Good luck Leon.

Excellent footballer who had a good career. Thank you for your efforts with NTFC. Health is the number one priority.

Hopefully it will mean I can take some money off you soon the next time you come to Wellingborough Golf Club!!!

Best wishes Leon for the next chapter in your career and life. I hope the game can give you some sort of role now that your playing career has come to an early end.

As an aside, maybe compulsory testing for heart conditions in lower leagues should be introduced? I think it's in place in the PL?

Perhaps this is something that the PFA should fund/drive as a way of looking after their members wellbeing?

........... compulsory testing for heart conditions for all NTFC fans might be helpful Wink Cool

I like Barnett and am glad the Club is offering decent support.

That is an unbelievable high rate for a healthy sportsman. Its worth checking that info'? The average limit for a fit male sports person is between 60/90 bpm although strenuous exercise will temporarily raise it higher..

It was quoted from Leon Barnett, suspect he would know his info.

Also that is the point, his heart shouldn't be that fast.

It was such a high figure that it just seemed improbable. No wonder LB has been feeling unwell in fact he has done well to get through such a high BPM rate.

He said that the specialist said he was lucky that he's a footballer and fit as most people that would cause to pass out.

He isn't a healthy sportsman. That's the reason he's had to retire.

All the best Leon.

Though surprised the doc hasn't advised getting as far away from this stress pit as possible!
