As Wadey mentions above, Pete Walton didn’t see much wrong in Breakspear’s performance - I just hope he was just sticking up for the old boys union as that was a shocker. The way he strutted off at the end to a chorus of boos you could tell he loves being the centre of controversy.
I'm a little disappointed in Pete Walton for defending what anyone could see was an atrocious performance from Breakspear. I know that the refs have a hard job and they do like to defend each other (right Deepcut ) but that performance was indefensible summed up by the JJOT booking.

The bloke who sits behind me is an ex ref as he lets us know frequently. He didn't join in the condemnation and was similar to Pete Walton's comments that its how the ref sees it. It was a pretty stupid challenge by Foley but never a red.

The problem with Breakspear is that he now has such a reputation that when he is appointed to your game you know it is going to ruin the spectacle. It also doesn't help that both sets of players know what he's capable of and spend the 90 minutes trying to provoke him to send someone off or award a penalty - actions that he's more than happy to oblige with.

I find this chastising of refs frankly quite boring , I like Foley but if he caught him anywhere near his knee as has been suggested then he had to go and he can have no complaints , Curle certainly didn't have a great deal to say about it
A few other decisions here and there I could quibble about but that's football
More importantly , if I was a player looking at this thread after putting in a proper shift like that i would be a bit p%ssed at the lask of praise.
Stop moaning about it , that was good solid performance that we can all be encouraged with

Not half as much as Uriah Rennie did. Mansfield play-off game anybody?
Phil Crossley was the ref for the Mansfield play off game. Spectacularly got key decisions wrong. Rennie was in charge of the 97 semi home to Cardiff who enjoyed sending of one of their players.

My apologies. Mixed up my refs.

The sending off was harsh and I reckon it was more to do with the ref showing his strength to regain control of the game. There was constant mini battles going on between various players and right or wrong you’ve got to admit it quietened everyone down.

Couldn't tell what had happened at the time from where I was, but having just seen the highlights, absolutely disgraceful decision. One of those maybe/maybe not a yellow type tackles. At least it quietened everyone down though.

He didn't. Curle just didn't want to go over it, he's already made clear that complaining about refs is not his style. As to the game, a great backs-to-the-wall performance, the team showed great character, battling qualities, a never say die attitude and worked their arses off for a deserved 3 points. Despite their numerical advantage and large amounts of possession in our half they still only managed 2 attempts no target all match. This win felt as sweet as the FGR result but for different reasons, as I have just mentioned. Onwards and upwards!

I bet that’s the first time Uriah Rennie has been mistaken for Phil Crossly 😉

Great win and fantastic 3 points today against a shocking ref performance.
Howler from Cornell swept under tge carpet tho I see. Another day would cost us.

I’m with you Irchy, refs are human and are both liable to and do make mistakes. Especially when you consider they are looking at incidents from one particular perspective. Therefore it’s not really the decisions so much as the personality. This bloke just gives the impression that he revels in the notoriety and the power. His track record is comparatively way off with other refs from what I can see. Either all the others are too lenient or he is far too draconian?

Views on the red card? I didn't get the best view but for me looked like a free kick and nothing more.
I’d agree with you on first glance. But having seen the highlights i would say it was late, a bit of a desperate lunge and would result in a yellow card about 95% of the time, but always the slight chance of a red. The penalty I didn’t really see what happened but that was a good spot and theoretically correct, but you often see them not given.

Despite all of mine and most others moaning/complaining about the terrible ref which dictated the game I actually enjoy those sort of games once in a while. We’ve seen them before and it creates a seige mentality on and off the pitch with noise levels greatly increased. Credit to all players for defending stoutly and to the manager for his tactical nous during the game and to the fans for the noisy support. Next week v Crewe, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a totally different game - quiet but pleasing football from both sides.

Great win, there is no way we would have won this game under the last few managers. KC has got them doing the basics correctly and what a difference. If we want to really challenge in this division we need to replace players like Cornell and Hoskins though.

Foley challenge: Late? Yes Two footed? Not explicit in a 2 feet off the ground lunge, but sort of. High? Not remotely.

I really like Pete Walton , he’s a good bloke but was also disappointed in his comments . This ref clearly over the attention and is on a power trip . If he has sent off four times as many players than any other ref , there is something wrong . It also ruins the game because all the players go down and squeal constantly . Their player Hunt had his come uppance though for constantly complaining and then giving away the needless free kick that resulted in the goal. He may also have conceded the penalty . On a separate note , McWilliams has to play in midfield .He makes so much difference to the team and can actually find his own player with a pass when our ball retention is appalling currently . We really do need to work on this aspect if we are to do anything this season at all .
