I think Pierre is going to be massive for us this season and he has really matured as a player.
I wouldn’t say matured as the guy was in the team of the year when he played for Wycombe, but since KC has come in and with Turnbull in the side too we’ve got to see the quality player he is.

This game showed how close we are to being a decent team at this level .
It was the same at MK Dons.
We can compete but are some way off it yet .
We need to be much stronger physically in some areas and the likes of Buchanan get exposed too easily when up against good players .
Admittedly , there are players out but it will be interesting to see what Curle does in January to strengthen.
I think he will get a bruiser in the centre of midfield . We get over run too often in there and JJOT hasn’t been the answer this season

This isn't "I told you so" (as I believe many others thought it too) but I said whilst DA was still in post, this squad is way better than it's showing.

And it is. It just needed someone with a clue in charge to sort it all out.

I'll be very disappointed if we don't charge for the plays offs - at least.

The person who didn't do us or the team any favours was JFH.
Despite his playing credentials, he didn't have the required managerial/coaching experience nor the personality to get the most out of what he had at his disposal.
He wasn't the first and he won't be the last top player who couldn't transfer his playing knowledge and experiences to others.
DA was a 'too close to what was before appointment' and just took on from what he had been left.  I have a feeling that DA will be successful somewhere else if he gets given the opportunity.

I wonder if we’re approaching the end of an era - much as I love them Buchs and jjot are looking like our weakest links and if Curle looks to the future in terms of strengthening these would be the areas I’d look at. With Buchs I think his legs are going/have gone which can leave him exposed defensively and he’s never been great going forward - his contract is up at the end of the season and I can’t see it getting renewed. I don’t know what the issue is with jjot - whether the injuries have taken a toll or it’s just a case of Father Time, either way he’s not as dynamic as he used to be in the middle of the pitch although he’ll still chip in with the odd goal or two.

One of the few things JFH got right was his assessment of Buchanan. He just bought the wrong replacement.

Hopefully his successor will be given a better time than the treatment meted out to Bunney.

I agree that these two players are now weak links .
JJOT is simply not able to get around the pitch like he did and is subsequently committing a lot more fouls .
In the box however , he is as strong as an ox and causes havoc at corners .
Buchs is very lucky he is still in the side . He has gone unchallenged for some time now and even Turnbull is cemented in as centre back and not a challenger to the left back position.
I wonder if Facey might play there when he returns .

It could be Bunney if he decides to return, under this new management, when his loan expires?

I agree with this entirely - it’s a shame that there’s not a natural left back prospect (I think) coming through the youth set up, we seem to have an abundance of everything else! I also agree with jjot - he’s such a presence in both boxes but he just can’t get around the pitch any more.

I can’t see Bunney coming back - he left because he was homesick ( ffs grow a pair man - any player that leaves because he is homesick can stay away . Snowflake Britain )
I think it’s back to the situation of the summer - who will take Bowditch, Waters , Coddington , Kasim to make way for new blood . And will the players go if offered ?
The three highly paid players , KVV , crooks and Turnbull are all doing well so hopefully they will want to stay .

According to transfermarkt the following are out of contract in the summer which will hopefully give Curle plenty of scope to remodel the squad, as contracts start to wind down I would hope the higher the likelihood of contracts getting paid out in January: Coddington, goff, Barnett, Buchs, Facey, Foley, jjot, bridge, Bowditch and Powell. I still can’t believe that we gave three year contracts to Taylor and Waters and then the extension to Hoskins.

KEEP:

Bridge - Has shown glimpses of quality and worth persevering with

RELEASE:

Barnett - Age / injury prone
Buchanan - A great servant for the club but we need someone more mobile in his position. Doubt he'll want to stay as a back up LB.
Coddington - If he's not good enough to force his way passed Cornell then he's not going to good enough for us
Kasim - Never seen
Bowditch - The least threatening attacking midfielder I've ever seen in a Cobblers shirt

JURY'S OUT:

Foley - Steady player but not creative enough in attack and not enough of an enforcer to play deeper
JJOT - A shadow of his former self and hasn't looked the same player in the last year
Powell - Very inconsistent although his recent league form might win me round
Goff - Cheap option as a 3rd choice keeper
Facey - Quite injury prone. Will struggle to play twice a week on a regular basis but decent enough at this level

I would agree with much of this , although I think Foley has done well this season and would retain him .
Facey is incredibly injury prone and needs to stay out the treatment room for a sustained period , especially as most of the injuries are not from contact with other players .

If being close to being a 'decent team' at this level you mean top 2-3 then we are perhaps not quite there yet, but we're pretty close IMO. Lincoln and MK away are likely the 2 toughest tests we will face all season and by the sounds of it (going by what has been said on here) we competed well on Saturday and perhaps deserved the draw. With Foley, Crooks, and Facey to come back into the side soon enough and a possible (likely IMO) couple of key signings in the window, we could be lining up quite differently and also stronger in the new year.

We are improving but not at the level of either Lincoln or MK who are built for league 2.
Signings will only come if others go - back to the same problem of the summer .
It’s all positive though and I’m not complaining at the turnaround .
