Smith is so much more of an accomplished keeper that Dia it's laughable, most of the doughnuts on here bigging him up are on the wind up.

What's laughable is some are being serious  Wink Grin

Just shows what limited footballing knowledge they have - but of course if you attend every game you're in a much better position to pass judgement  Grin Grin

Why do you keep on focusing on his mistake against arguably the biggest club in the country? Can you genuinly not think of other mistakes he has made? Even at his worst I would take Smith over Cornell any day.

Oh no, not another one agreeing that Smith is a better keeper than Cornell, even Ron is having trouble denying the Obvious now.  Smiley

I will just leave this here for you.

Smith is simply not good enough!!

He has far too many flaws in his game for him to play any higher than league 1!!

Hence why he has ended up at Rover (Prob as their number 2)

His attituide is poor also from what I hear.

For me totally correct decision by JED to let him go

Sorry Evers old chum, I happen to think Smith is the better keeper, although I admit Dia has been better of late unfortunately IMHO he isn't good enough to get us promoted from this awful division.

If you offered me Smith back on January the 1st on his wage or keep Cornell on his I would keep Cornell. I won't focus in on the Man U balls ups he made but what he did after that. He wasn't very good for us later that season and was quite rightly dropped. He wasn't then offered a new contract by us and moved to Bristol Rovers as a bench warmer. If we did bring in a new keeper he would have to be better than Cornell and on a wage we could afford. If you offered me Jason Steele on loan and IF we could afford him in I would take him. He is without doubt a better keeper than Cornell, Smith just currently isn't in my view.

So no trouble there for me, hope this helps.

Smith, during the season when we won league2, was immense 95% of the time. The best goalkeeper to play for us throughout an entire season that I've seen at the Cobblers, and good enough to get in the division4 team of the year.

He was poor early doors the following season; I came up with the theory at the time that he was no good 'in big games' so to speak. He made big errors v WBA and Man UTD when they were on the TV.

BUT. To have the debate whether or not he's better than Cornell in my mind is plain silly. I like Cornell these days, he's turned out to be 'alright for us' and I have no urge for KC to replace him in January. Far from it. But Cornell v Smith (overall playing for us) - Smith every day of the week.

Thats not to say Id want him back. He's a player I believe 'did his time for us and moved on'. He didn't leave, at least if you believe hearsay, on the best of terms. He's not young anymore, and I've a gut feeling he wouldn't replicate his past performances in a 2nd spell. But on his day he was far far better than Smith.

It's a good job we get to put another ten players out on the pitch with him then isn't it?

Think again after Frank's revelations. Only losers want out of form former players!

I will just leave this here for you.

2 things Ron, we are now comparing him directly with Cornell and secondly what level are we playing??? Ahhh yes league 2 I thought so. I said he'd never make it above league 1 and what do you know once again I was right!

In league 2 the lad is a very very good keeper, and he is on a different level to Dai

In L2 he was a good keeper for the majority of the time he was with us (tailed off badly at the end). This does not guarantee he would be just as good again does it? He has many flaws to his game as you rightly pointed out in the past. His kicking game at his best did not match that of what we see currently from Cornell now for a start in my view.  I would also say/guess he would cost a lot more to employ than Cornell and Cornell has a far better attitude all round. Taking all in to account, it's a no from me on Smith.

Fixated with former players. A good rule of thumb in life is 'never go back'. Smith was utterly superb when he arrived at Sixfields and I was convinced it was only a matter of time before he went to a Championship club. Then came the MU game. It was all set up for him to show the world his ability. I watched that game from behind the goal and I was just dumbfounded by his errors, he pretty much threw that game away all On his own. The sad fact of the matter is that he has never recovered from that performance.

Your opinion on Smith back in 2017 was spot on except his performances tailed off in the last 1/3rd of that season. As you know and you may have even suggested that Smith appears still to be on a poor run of form.
If you compare Smith of the Championship season (2/3rds of) and Cornells current improvement this season then based on your 2017 assessment of said player I have no alternative but to follow your advice.  I too think Smith was the better goalie until his unfortunate loss of form;manifested even into this season. Would  I sign him ...probably not based on 2017 assessment.

Don't worry all...Bristol Rovers' fans are having kittens that the 'football trader company that play occasional games' - yes, Posh are going to swoop for their first choice (loan) Bonham.
Despite Smudger appearing to 'look scared everytime the ball comes near him'...they need him, though think they still have Slocombe tbf!
