I didn't mention bringing Smith back, I just pointed out the fact that he is a better keeper than Cornell

He was, but he isn't now.

Smith was bang average when he left and seems to have gone downhill since, could be good but I think he would be an expensive risk.

We really are obsessed with bringing back ex-players.

Fact .
Cornell’s current season with us is much better than Smith’s final season with us .
Smith was deservedly dropped by 3 successive managers and not offered a renewed contract .
One of the most over rated players we have ever had . I would take Cornell over Smith currently every day of the week .

I'd agree to disagree. Smith is by far the better keeper imo

i agree - smith at his best is so far ahead of cornell at his best

sadly, i think we have cornell at his best now.

which isnt good enough

always got a mistake in him

I don’t think anyone would disagree with that . But Smith was not and hasn’t been at his best for a very long time .
This is the point I am making .
Smith was not that great for us during the final season

Pretty sure that's not a fact. His wage demands were too high which we couldn't/wouldn't match so he walked. If they were more reasonable I'm sure we would have kept him on.

That may or may not be true , but he wasn’t offered a contract either way - by Smith’s own admission.
If he is that great, why can’t he break into a poor Bristol rovers side ?

We've all got our own opinions and in my opinion Smith is a far better keeper than Cornell will ever be. Re Smith at the Gas, maybe he didn't get on with Clarke ?
I think if you asked our 4000 regular fans, who is the better keeper, Smith or Cornell, 3000 would go with Smith. But, like I said, it's all about opinions.

Smith's performances tailed off in his last season. He was inconsistent; in fact this inconsistency showed at times during the championship season. B & S is correct ref contract situation; he simply went his own way so not offered one here. We all like to remember Smith in his first
20 odd games for us. Cornell scores higher this season as he is at least consistent. Both DA and KC reflect this.

Your views on Cornell are not simply in line with majority of fan base let alone the Managers!

Absolutely correct .
Everyone likes to remember Smith for his first 20 games for us in which he was immense .
The fact is he was nowhere near as good after that and went into sharp decline. Three successive managers dropped him.
The argument is whether you would have Smith back to replace Cornell now . My argument is that Cornell is better now than Smith was when he left .

Evers, the problem you have is that you think you are right every time, the chances are that you are sometime incorrect. I said it's all about opinions, you have yours and I have mine, the difference is mine is always correct !!   Grin

How many managers have took over at NTFC and one of their first moves is to bring a keeper in on loan to replace Cornell?, most of them. Even Page, who signed him, then replaced him. Like I say, it's all about opinions,         so what do you think about Brexit ?                            Grin
