I think the 'anti' comments are because of who he plays for now being Northampton born and bread.I also wish him well just a shame he is now making a name for himself playing for Peterborough.
Bred shurely? All this stuff about Ivan Toney. He's hardly the same player that was with us...like comparing Bruce Banner with the 'Incredible' Hulk in terms of how he's grown in stature as well as skill!

I agree 100% that he was sold on the cheap, DC wanted to cash in before he left, but I think that if a player has a chance to go to a club like Newcastle it would be VERY difficult for any League 2 club to match the ambition.
Wilder was told he had to be sold. We hadnt paid the wages for July.

Many on here and on social media (our fans) I recall said he was nothing special, wouldn't make it beyond the lower leagues. I always felt he had it in him to be a championship player, time will tell on that I guess. Most didn't support his 'potential return' when it was discussed. Then again, most of us didn't think KVV would ever play the way he's played for us, me included!(strongly)

Fantastic hat trick and he is on fire this season . I have nothing at all against Toney - he pretty much saved us from possible oblivion when Wilder finally abandoned Sinclair and took the chance on him . He is a handful and I just wish it wasn’t for Posh...... it was never ever going to be back for us though. Get real.

But as a rule, our fans don't tend to enjoy talented players but prefer grafters.

I wonder where he would be if Peterborough didn't sign him, his career stuttered slightly in the last couple of years so it's good to see he's on the rise again.
Simeon Jackson went through a similar situation but he never got back to his old self.

It's why some of our fans still rate him despite offering zero.

Ivan Toney is still only 22 years old, he was just a boy when he played for us. Newcastle didn't buy a player, they bought potential.

He's played virtually two full seasons out on loan at League one before signing for Peterborough. He was clearly in demand.

Here's a prediction for you, end of season boro get promoted and around June time announce they have sold Toney for £4m. DC and the Captain still sitting pretty on the £11m.

I have a feeling you could end up being right, certainly with the first sentence. The second one, who really knows?

We must let go of the notion that exciting young players will stay at our club long enough to get the correct market value including decent sell on clauses.
Who would we have seen stay longer at our club had Cardoza/Thomas delivered on the ground giving us the proper infrastructure to maintain a league 1 status?
Lee whatshisface at MK. Bradley Johnson Derby. Jacobs at Wigan, James Collins Luton, Ivan Tony Peterborough. John Marquis Doncaster etc, etc.
To all those who think putting decent players in such decrepit facilities as the first step to growth need to revaulate and learn that without decent foundation's and an attractive function staduim, we will continue to lose millions upon millions from lost opportunities.

None of the above. Most left to join much bigger clubs on a lot more money, at least two where not wanted by our manager at the time.

More to do with wage structure and budgets than manager's not wanting them. How many lost their jobs due piss poor playing staff? Even if some did leave for bigger clubs, we still recieved a pittance of their value.

James Collins & John Marqius were on loan, signed by Chris Wilder. Then when Wilder left Collins & Marquis returned to the parent clubs at the end of the loan spell. Rob Page joined us as manager but didn't want or know about these two players, so when they were released they went to other clubs. If CW had stayed we probably would have signed one of both of them along with Danny Rose but everything changed the day CW joined Sheffield United.

Unfortunately you may be right Just relating to the “captain” did anyone ever source any of the Private Eye articles on him - it was pre digital versions but I can’t believe there are not archieve copies available.

Nope, nothing to do with budgets. See the other post about Page not wanting either Collins or Marquis. As most of the fees received were not disclosed, we'll never know. But we never seem to put in sell on clauses, which I will agree is a bit mad in this day and age.

Hoskins is a grafter.
Hoskins is the new Ryan Gilligan. But at 25, Gilligan upped and left and made a career for himself in Scandanavia.
