I'm definitely in the minority here, but I can see the reasoning behind offering Powell something.

Cynics would suggest that his recent up-turn in form is due to his contract running out; a more charitable explanation might be that Curle has finally started playing him in his best position: as a forward down the middle.

His composed finishing, pace and strength on the ball mean that he has decent attributes for a striker at this level. His inconsistent crossing and lack of capacity to track back are less of an issue if he's played down the middle. He's had a decent return in terms of goals and assists in recent weeks and I could see him having an impact next year if used correctly.

Time will tell.
I will have a little bet with you that our friend Mr Powell will return to playing reasonably well once every 15 games next season and swing the lead again . Remember this post and I hope you prove me wrong , but I know you won’t .
People disappointed by Foley’s exit but he is bang average for me . If you want to finish mid table , he is your man . You need someone more influential that imposes himself on games to progress.

Seems a very high number of youth players being given professional contracts.  A sign for me that we won’t be signing many players this summer.  Could work out though.

Would that have something to do with the fact he was at Man City? I imagine coming to Northampton, you have to alter your expectations of your career.
Might be an 'age thing'. Best for all that he left.

Good work by Curle today. A deep cull was needed and this looks to be underway. Bit of a surprise about Powell but otherwise all good.

At last we can get in proper left & right wing backs....

I guess the option in the JJOT contract is similar to the one in Buchs one last year, when he triggered the additional year.

I guess KC has told JJOT he's not part of his plans so if he does trigger the extension he'll not get any game time so it's best if he leaves. JJOT has stated he wants to play so that's why I'll think he'll leave rather than take the easy option.

The biggest disappointment for me was Facey. No idea what caused such a dramatic decline for him as he was excellent when he first arrived.  Such was the decline, I'd be shocked if he got a football league contract next year.
Completely disagree, he has never been excellent

It seems he has been offered reduced terms; he may reject them? Far more likely to sign for somebody like Cambridge and score a couple against.....................  Embarrassed

Not surprised really that he offered Danny Powell a new contract given that he was picking him regularly towards the end of the season. So long as he is played up front KC might be able to get the best out of him. A little surprised at Foley being released, can only assume he's got someone better already lined up. Foley was decent enough but only average for this division. No other surprises, pretty much what I expected.

JJOT will go if another club makes him an offer. Considering his record he should get fixed up with a team in this league.

Now the wage bill as been pared down, even more so once JJOT, Taylor, Waters and Bunny have found new clubs, it will give KC some scope to improve the team with perhaps 5-6 first team regulars. I fully expect Rochdale and Cheltenham to take Bunny and Waters off our hands and Taylor to return to Scotland.

You're entitled to that. In my opinion, he was. Remember his debut at Bradford and being shocked that we had signed him permanently.

No great surprises. Powell can consider himself lucky given his performances over 2 years here and Foley a bit unlucky.  I had no idea JJOT had an option to extend his contract but recent interviews indicate he is moving on. I think Pierre is likely to be sold.

Come August and the side will be very much KC's and please Mr Curle no "bridges and foundations" excuses for the first 3 months.

We can live in hope he rejects them but sadly I don't think he would get offered anything by any other team in the EFL .
He hasn't performed for us or MK over a number of years .

Powell is a real "Marmite" player, he's big, strong, quick and has a lot of ability BUT he really does lack bottle. But if he had that as well he wouldn't have been a League 1/2 player all his career. Two months ago I wouldn't have even thought about offering him a contract, I hope its that KC has played him in the right position that has bought about the up turn in form and not that he thought he could be out of a job so he needed to get his finger out !

You and me both, but I believe that playing him down the middle has been key.

Seems a bit unfair. They have already got Bunney playing at LB.

Good for him, but guess it'll curb any chance we had of getting Bunney to sign for them now...

So not considered good enough for us, but wanted by a club who finished mid table in the league above.
