Fair play for the message.

Does this mean the end of the wing-back experiment, or are we going to be sticking him up front I wonder? I'd also assume if he is a wide player then we're not following up on the Dorking winger we had on trial?

He's not a wide player. Either striker or just behind a striker, I think.

County fan in peace here. Jim Gannon hasn't worked with Curle, he was playing for Shelbourne in Ireland when Curle was at Mansfield.

The rumours have been doing the rounds here for weeks so I'm not surprised to see Matty's move confirmed. Great creative attacking midfielder with an eye for goal. Played his best stuff for us in a number 10 role behind a number 9 linking midfield and attack. Was a marked man for the last few months of the season meaning his goals dried up somewhat but that simply allowed space for others. I wish him a successful time with you all, he's earned the right to be move full time.

Hence the spin from our club making it sound like he's scored 40 goals last season (it was actually 40 in the calendar year 0f 2018).....21 last and 27 this wasn't it? Although most of this seasons 27 came in the first half of the season and as you said it dried up second half.

Got to convert from part time to full time but certainly seems to have the pedigree to be a success.....great first signing of the summer!

Has it been mentioned anywhere if we paid a fee or has his contract expired?

Watched the youtube video of his goals, most of which were very clean strikes, many of which were from long range. Which makes me optimistic.

Definitely looks like a number10. Don't think any of them were headers from memory!

Have we found a modern day Richard Hill? We can dream.

At 27, and given that he's had to put his teaching career on hold, as well as commit to travelling 6 hours a day (or relocating), its a big g@mble for him and one that Im sure will ensure that he is absolutely 100% committed to making a success.

On paper, an excellent piece of business. Onto the next one!  Smiley

Free transfer according to the Chronicle.... see below

Keith Curle has moved quickly to make his first signing of the summer, sealing a deal for prolific Stockport County attacker Matt Warburton on a free transfer.

I hope we’ve tied him down well, because if he does produce in the FL he’s on enough teams radars already.  Lots of interest in January but nothing materialised.

Refreshing change for us to take a punt on someone prolific and experienced.....we normally get one or other.

A lot of County fans angry that once again they have let a decent player go for free.
However, many have also pointed out that Matty Warburton's contract was a two year deal, and now up, so wishing him good luck. Clearly, refused terms offered at Stockport!

Some interesting players released today, free transfers will probably make up most of our signings.

Swamp Donkey Ryan Tafazoli for anyone?

Anybody fancy Danny Hylton down at Luton he’s out of contract good strike rate I’d take him in a heartbeat might be out of our price range in terms of wages

I don't wish to be a wet blanket but just remember Stockport play at the same level as Brackley. Warburton's record should be judged on that basis. I hope he makes it though.

Very true, look at Lobjoit.
However, I like to think about it in reverse. How many would our existing players in that position, maybe Sammy Hoskins, JJOT or Pollock, score in Brackley's team? If its less than 27 (it is), we've potentially signed a better player than we have already.

Lobjoit was playing way below the standard Warburton was playing at at the season just gone

Just out of interest does anyone know the rules on when you can approach/talk to a player that you know is still under contract but that contract runs out in the summer? It sounds like KC has had several meetings with Warburton but wouldn’t he still have been under contract?

I think the approach is made to the players agent. "Is said player available etc...etc". In fairness I think Warburton has said the same in his interview, he was aware from his agent that teams have been watching him since January time.
