"Decent enough but has a mistake or two in him just like most League 2 defenders, but I would’ve happily still had him here."

"Quick, strong, good in the air for his size. Can play at CB but is best at RB. Would have liked to have kept him but he probably didn’t want to be second-choice RB behind Luke Hendrie, who I think is better.
Don’t expect to be playing out from the back with him though because he is rubbish at passing and very slow in thought."

Two assessments from Grimsby fans...

Two assessments from Grimsby fans...

Opinions on him after he rejected a contract seem generally positive:

'RHJ was outstanding, in my opinion, when deployed on the right of a back three.  Not only did his pace and ability to get in front of the man give us something extra as opposed to the traditional 6'2 just-head-it types at this level, but he gave us a real threat when overlapping down the right flank.

At the very worst he was good cover across all defensive positions.  Disappointed he's gone but seeing as he's said he's decided to leave, it looks very much like we offered him a deal and he wants to try something new.  Big loss in my opinion.'

That's probably the most favourable view of him I've found. The general consensus is that he is a strong athlete with potential but could improve with his technical ability though.

I don’t know if I’m massively confident in a 5ft 8in centre back - being generous it sounds like pace is his strongest asset!

After reading this entire thread since it began, and given the accuracy of the predictions wherein, I'm so glad you lot aren't running my pension.

I remember almost exactly the same being said when Paul Rodgers joined. I hope that's not an omen.

After a bit of reading up on him he must be squad filler - only a one year contract (with option for another) and not much experience. Hopefully KC can knock the rough edges off and develop him while he’s here.

There’s a slight imbalance currently in that we have two apparent right wing backs but a traditional left back that doesn’t normally play wing back .
That’s without including C MacWilliams and Turnbull .

I don't know why you think that. Joe Martin can play left wing back or left back or even left midfield during his career.

LWB: Martin is a wing back as is Bunney.
RWB: Hall-Johnson is a wing back, C.McWilliams is a RB.

Adams is primarily a winger who can play wing back. Turnbull is a CB who can play in midfield.

Bunney may well not be here by the window's end, but at the moment he is our player.

Seems fine to me.

The reason I question the balance is because I interpreted Martin as primarily a left back that could get forward as opposed to a wing back from what the Stevenage fans said . I’m not sure he has the pace for a wing back . Happy to be proved wrong though .
Adams and Hall- Johnson are right wing backs in the traditional sense .
MacWilliams I think will be go out on loan . Turnbull is not a wing back if he fills in on the left side . Bunney won’t be here .
At the minute it looks unbalanced but I think a pacey left side player will come in .

I read from somewhere (twitter?) that Hall-Johnsons best performance was right in a back 3, so maybe he wont play wing back.
