We are currently short of one , if not two centre halves .
Turnbull and Pierre are shoe ins . Williams is a rookie and may yet be too lightweight . The other youth players are untried .
Surely this will be the next signing along with some pace down the left .

Assuming:
Adams and HJ can play RWB
HJ can also play RB
C.McWilliams isnt considered a 1st team player yet
Martin can play anywhere down the left
Bunney will not be here next season (out on perm or loan),

We need as a minimum:
1. Right sided CB
2. RB who can also play CB
3. LB/LWB
4. Winger

I would have thought that 1 and 2 could be resolved by signing Goode who is very versatile, I’m guessing that the fact he still has a year left at Scunnie might be a sticking point (assuming he actually wants to come here) but it looks like he is down the pecking order.

I thought Goode wasn’t that Goode IMHO, terrible distribution, think we can do better.

That’s exactly as I see it .
Plus Pierre and Turnbull are both left sided centre backs and so we only have the rookie Williams on the right currently .
Pace on the left is missing either at LWB or winger .
I think Goode would be a good addition but I suspect he would be here by now if he was coming .

Agreed Manny. I’d leave him alone and continue the search.

Really - we’ll have to agree to disagree on that. I accept that he’s not exactly Beckenbauer but he’s more than adequate for league 2 and he’d run through a brick wall for us.

I agree - he’s solid , versatile and his distribution for a centre half is not that bad .
I just think he will stay at Scunny

I would be happy to see Jay Williams as our fourth CB. He showed enough last season in my opinion to merit that place. Whats the point of having these lads come through if we are not going to play them.

Port Vale could be close to one deal for a League Two striker on a free transfer having been in advanced talks...

Could be Waters again as they were in for him last Summer but he turned down the deal according to DA at the time

Both Waterts & Bunney need to get their agents working overtime to get them fixed up elsewhere as neither will get a look in with us.

Bridge just signed for Carlisle...

Devitt has signed for Blackpool...

Reuben Reid signing for Chelts so that will probably scupper their interest in Billy Waters (they signed another striker last Friday too)

https://www.chesterfield-fc.co.uk/news/20192/june2/20190620-new-signings/

Northampton Town pair David Buchanan and Luke Coddington have agreed to join the Spireites when their contracts expire at the end of the month.

Buchanan is a 33-year-old left-back while 24-year-old Coddington is a goalkeeper who started his career in Middlesbrough’s academy and represented England at Under-19 level. They have both agreed two-year contracts, effective from July 1.

Buchanan has made over 550 senior appearances in a career which saw him play for Preston North End, Tranmere Rovers, Hamilton Academical and Bury before signing for Northampton in 2015. He was also capped 15 times by Northern Ireland at Under-21 level.

"I'm glad it's all done and dusted now and I can't wait to get started," said Buchanan. "I'm someone who gives nothing but 100 per cent every time I put the shirt on."

Coddington joined Huddersfield Town after leaving Boro before signing for Northampton in 2017. He has had several loan spells, including two stints at Wrexham.

Coddington said: "It happended quite quickly and as soon as I heard Chesterfield were interested, I wanted to come here. The stadium and the facilities are brilliant."

Great news to here that 3 of our players have found clubs.

Thing I find strange is that we have lost another member of staff involved with the academy. This time it's the 'head of academy coaching' - not to be confused with the 'head of the academy. We also lost the 'lead development coach. In the space of 3 months, we have lost 3 long term members of staff that have been integral to the success of the academy. Given the current success, shouldn't we be doing more to hold on to these people?
Following on from the above, the academy head [ Trevor Gould's replacement] and the chief scout are leaving. This is a worrying trend.

Could we be the other "fourth-tier outfit" after him? Swap deal including bother Waters & Bunney would be nice!  Grin

https://www.newsandstar.co.uk/sport/17720119.two-clubs-vying-for-carlisle-utds-hallam-hope/

Two clubs are vying for Carlisle United forward Hallam Hope, the club have said.

Last season's 15-goal top scorer is in demand and could leave Brunton Park before the start of next season.

United, though, have told the frontman he will only be allowed to go if a bidding club meets their valuation.

They have already turned down bids but interest in the Barbados international is unlikely to have gone away.

League Two rivals Swindon have been linked with Hope this summer but are not the only party thought to be showing interest.

Another fourth-tier outfit are believed to be in the race with a club from League One also monitoring developments.

Director of football David Holdsworth would not be drawn on the identity of the bidding clubs.

But he said Hope, 25, had expressed a wish to play at a higher level.

"Right now we’ve got two clubs trying to take Hallam," said Holdsworth.

"I’ve been on the phone constantly through the summer, we've had bids for him, and a second club has entered the race in the past few days.

"We have made it clear with each player that we will evaluate bids that come through the door."

Hope is under contract with the Blues for the 2019/20 season.

"I've had Hallam on the phone and he wants to play at a higher level," Holdsworth added.

"He will only do so when it's right for Carlisle United. The days of us giving into clubs and giving [players] away cheaply are not going to happen any more. I have told his agent that every day.

"I respect Hallam. He has got a contract with us, which he entered into in good faith.

"He will play for us in pre-season and in the forthcoming season if we don't get the value we afford him."

Should Hope leave in the short term it would leave Carlisle short of recognised frontmen.

The Blues are believed to be in talks with striker targets on both a permanent and loan basis.

Amongst all the comment on definite and potential transfer news at the Cobblers is it not worth remembering that the previous chief scour appointed by Thomas was in place during the two forgettable seasons we had before Curle arrived which saw us sign some real dross that we are still trying to get rid off. At least so far Simon Tracey seems to be making a better fist of things than his predecessor.

Not overly bothered about Hope to be honest, perhaps based on his last spell with us but think we can do better.

Is that a hint that Rico might be coming back in some role with the youth?
