Goode is a bang average lg2 defender in my opinion.

He will do replace Taylor.

Pierre' s replacement needs to be better quality.

I think the previous poster was being sarcastic and he obviously doesn’t rate Goode. I’m a fan but I’ve got to say that’s a big contract (and I hope not too much was spent on a fee) for a player that Sc***horpe and their fans clearly didn’t rate. As I’ve said before I hope this isn’t the Pierre replacement and that another centre back is on the way.

I don’t mind Goode to be fair, just not overly wowed by him. A fee and a three-year deal seemed a little excessive at first glance, but he’s only 23 which leaves plenty of room to develop. No qualms with the signing.

As for Oliver, he wanted to leave Morecambe to be closer to his family, rather than being released as such.

https://www.morecambefc.com/news/2019/may/retained-and-released-list/

The goalscoring record is always going to catch the eye and bring about negativity. But he’s a physical presence, can hold the ball up well and is a nuisance to defenders. This is by no means a classic highlight reel but it shows what he’s about and what he can offer.

I imagine he’ll provide back-up to Smith, but either way he can be a decent foil for a strike partner/number 10.

“He will add competition and depth to the attacking unit. Over the course of a season you will need different options, you need to pose a different threat and have more than one plan up your sleeve. You need different ways of scoring goals and winning games, and Vadaine offers an alternative threat for us.

“You need to have a batch of strikers who can stay fresh and sharp over a long season and in order to achieve that you need to have competition and options among the strikers and he provides that."

Obviously not first name on the team-sheet, but hey-ho, I'm not going to be negative by any of our players until they've had a chance for a few games. I just hope that if he makes a mistake first thing the fans don't get on his back and give him as much of a chance as Smith.

I read that as though we're not looking at selling any of our current strikers?

Adams whipping in crosses to Smith and Oliver could be formidable. Happy to wait and see what he offers in our new setup before judging.

Also, as I said before I like what I saw of Goode. People keep going on about mistakes but I can't really think of any of the top of my head, seems to be a more a Sc***horpe opinion. He's strong, and he'll put his body on the line. Can also pick out a pass, which is obviously an upgrade on Taylor on that regard.

He's not going to replace Pierre, but that's because statistically Pierre was head and shoulder above everyone else in the squad last year, so that's a tough job for most anyway.

Edit: He also had a storming season on football manager 2018, so that's probably all affected my opinion as well. Just need to bring in Ilias Chair from QPR and we're sorted.

No worries mate, I was only teasing - it is a bit creative though to make out it was his decision to leave morecambe to be closer to his family when as far as I can tell he has been northern based all his career! I’m prepared to give anyone the benefit of the doubt but I have big reservations.

Anyway, interesting tit-bit in the interview is that we're still in negotiation for a few who are 'on their club tours', so not free agents at least.

Good call that about Chair from QPR in my opinion.

Yeah, just to be clear from that last post he was a good player on football manager, I don't think we'd be in a position to sign him or have any intention to, though I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

What a miserable git.  Goode turned our season around last year.

able git.  Goode turned our season around last year.

Did he really?

Be interested to know how many goals he gave away, getting caught the wrong side or beaten in the air. Also at least 3 pens I can remember him conceeding.

I'm sure he will be adequate in a 3, but we need a leader/captain type to play alongside.

I thought that Cornell was supposed to be responsible for every goal we conceded last season.

Goode will be better than Pierre in a year or so and is already at his level, just doesn't carry the ball on the attack like Pierre did on occasions.

Watch Goode, watch him properly.

Not many I remember, no more than Pierre/Taylor.

Can you name the three? Didn't think it was more than one, but not 100%.

Agreed, but time will tell. Still think he is decent.

Definatly Yeovil at home and Cheltenham away (varney was a right pain in goodes side that day) were the two I saw myself, I'm sure there was another
. Hope he improves and will be fine with a proper leader alongside I'm sure.

So did Pierre .
He was responsible for a number of goals conceded but these were over looked .
Pierre’s issue was concentration

Wasn't Yeovil at home the 2-2 draw, thought that was Joe Powell that gave it away?

We need a statto! (or can someone point me to a decent stats website)

Really hoping we get another decent CB in, but for me we could manage on what we have (Turnbull, Goode, J.Williams, Hall-Johnson, Hughes).

Yes, you are correct. Joe Powell gave away the penalty against Yeovil.
