So what?
Very common in young footballers, much of it goes under the radar, being released or struggling to get back from injuries etc cause a lot of depression as some of these lads only have football for an income, Gambling is a different thing but at least he has admitted that it was a problem for him, that's better than being in denial letting the issue escalate and getting more down. Welcome Harry,

Welcome Harry,
i only have my job as an income as a groundworker/civil engineer but no one would give a sh1t if I had a gambling problem and I have a lot less money to gamble than he has. But bless him and every other sportsman with a problem

That’s been fairly well documented on here so really no need to make such a ‘ bold’ statement. Take it you do not approve of the Harry Smith signing.

I think the point was not that football is their only source of income but that a lot of these young guys don't have anything else to fall back on if it all goes wrong for them. At the end of the day though, footballers are just people like everyone else and they can have the same mental and emotional difficulties as everyone else can. They don't deserve any more or less sympathy than anyone else but, just like anyone else, they deserve a bit of understanding. Fair play to him for acknowledging and addressing his problems, I say.

Shows that he’s got some character. Seeking help is often the hardest part for any mental health sufferer/addict.

Precisely the opposite I thought Evers, that's why i pointed it out, I hadn't seen it mentioned elsewhere on this board. Apologies if the subject already has it's own thread then. Bold?...I wasnt judging him for it, I put it out there as a piece info and no more. What do I think about it since you ask?... I probably hold the same view as NTFC87, I dont give a f##k as long as it doesn't interfere with his ability to do a job for the club I support. Would I have released a statement to the world had I had similar problems?...Cant see it somehow Wasnt there a discussion on here a few weeks ago regarding the lack of info coming out of the club concerning player availability, with some suggesting the reasons should be more transparent and others believing disclosure is down to the player...Morias's appendicitis being a case in point? Are we then, given the transparency of Smith's statement regarding his previous mental health issues, expecting him to hold his hands up and tell us all if he falls out of remission and feels personally unable to play whilst under contract?

At least two posters on here pointed out Smiths personal problems after the Macc game and before the Oldham game. Quite a few on here would have noticed these comments! Hardly fresh news/info was it?

Like I said Evers, I hadn't previously seen any reference on these boards to his mental health. So it came as fresh news to me, and I did already apologise for any oversight. Maybe I read those comments on those match threads, but took no notice, him being a opposition player and that. It seems more relevant to mention now though dont you think, with him signing a three year contract for us? Do you have any opinion about his letter to the world concerning his health issues, and would you put similar problems out there, or do you prefer, like me, to keep issues of a personal nature closer to home? In any case, I think we all must share the opinion that he scores loads of goals, is a right pain in the arse for opposition defenders, stays healthy, and becomes a Town legend.

Wow. I think I'm just gonna take your word on that being true, and Mr Crowe being attributable.

Rather have a player with a bit of hunger, passion & an edge rather than someone like Bowditch or Sordell
