No - why would I?

Well if you join up the dots... supposedly, two posters commented on (his) health problems when he played for Macc, though can't say I have seen anything, but no comment from you as to the  inappropriacy (in your mind).
However, now he's a Cobbler (Slowthai!) you take umbrage at a poster for pointing out those issues!

Macc Town fan here.  I think the majority view was that we would have liked to have hung on to Harry Smith for another season but he does divide opinion.

On the plus side, he wins a lot in the air, he has surprisingly good feet and is skilful for such a big player.  Given the right service he will score a good few goals, particularly with his head but nothing to date suggests he is a 20 goal a season striker.  He is a passionate player who wears his heart on his sleeve and you will get a player who will be committed to the cause. He can hold up play and make a right nuisance of himself with defenders. Like all the other Macc players he continued to fight for the cause of avoiding the drop despite repeatedly not being paid on time so deserves credit for that alone.

On the less positive side, he’s not a natural finisher, especially with his feet.  He has fluffed some gilt edged chances (but scored harder ones) - when one on one with the keeper it’s always best to keep everything crossed because anything can happen. He has had a few disciplinary issues at Macc, especially when things aren’t going well for him - he is as likely to give stick to his team mates and his own fans as well as the opposition and the referee. There is usually quite a lot of arm waving and frustration when the right ball doesn’t come, someone else has a shot etc.

Overall Harry was a positive influence at Macc, he never terrorised defences but he certainly annoyed them. He’s still quite young and there’s a good player in there somewhere with the right service and a few older players/manager to put an arm around him at times when things aren’t going right.  He improved over the course of the season and if he keeps going in that direction you will have got a very useful player at this level. General feeling is that we are sorry to see him go but pleased for the lad personally as he has got a long contract and is likely to get paid every month - neither of those things were likely if he stayed.

Thanks for your contribution mate, and congratulations on staying up. But, there is a bit of a contradiction with the feet issue?

Silkpurse, any idea from your end, how much the undisclosed fee was?

Admittedly that does seem to be contradictory- what I meant was that he can lay off a ball, is neat and tidy in open play mostly but doesn’t really score as many with his feet as he should. He hasn’t got a particularly powerful shot and has got a showreel of some absolute howlers when it looked easier to score. More reliable with his head.

Only speculation at our end but I would have thought not a particularly high fee. Frankly given the state of our finances you could have offered anything and we would have bitten your hand off.  Our latest winding up petition has been adjourned until end of June and we owe the taxman so every little helps...

Just to add a final note on this - these issues came up when he played for Millwall the season before last- he went public about the fact that he was seeking help for some problems, there’s been no suggestion that there has been any repetition while he was at Macc.

The internet is similar to here. You'll always find what your looking for. Especially when it come down to something negative. I can see my perspective following the usual well trodden path. If he's decent i'll like him. If he's shyte, I won't. Whilst I wish the lad well with any issues he has. I only care if he can play football.

Folkestone Invicta fan here.

I agree with all of the above. We, also, were sad to see him go but he was clearly far too good for us. Since then he's had his own thread on our forum tracking his exploits (Aberdeen trials, Millwall, Swindon, Macc, and now you) http://fifc.proboards.com/thread/5657/harry-smith-watch?page=2

He's a great bloke and will certainly get better & better. Look after him

Thanks for an honest and fair appraisal. I'm very happy he's joined us. Best of luck to your team next season.
