Bob Edwards was an inside forward and played for The Cobblers way back in the early 60’s. I believe he scored 8 goals for the club in '61, helping them to promotion. Bob was my Grandad, and sadly passed away last month at the age of 88. I was trying to collect more info from his football days. Does anyone here have (or know people with) memories, memorabilia or knowledge on team mates from his time at the club? A long time ago, I know, but we’d be really grateful for any info.

Promoted from Division Four 1958/59 - 1960/61 season. Presumably this was the season your Grandfather played in; so a Bowen man!
As I was very young at the time I cannot recall too much about season 1960/61. Interesting to see he played in the same side as Holton(the best centre forward we have ever had), Branston,Reid,Everitt, Foley, Leck, Robson, Lines and Gary Mills. What a side!

Quoting the late Frank Grande's book "Who's who - The Cobblers"      Robert Henry Edwards, Centre Forward, Born Guilford 22/5/31. Appearances 23 Goals 10, Signed March 1961 left May 1962.
He scored 2 goals on his debut, a 3-2 win at Crystal Palace on 18th March 1961 and his last game was a 0-2 defeat away at Reading on 11th April 1962. His Cobblers career got off to a flying start with 6 goals in his first 5 matches but after 5 games of his second season Dave Bowen signed Cliff Holton and he set a new goal scoring record.

Great, thanks for the excerpt - interesting to read, didn't realise he got 6 in his first 5 matches, and it helps to get all the numbers right!
