Blimey - these are all looking solid considered signings - not just desperately grabbing anyone who is available. Looking good for the new season.

Welcome big man...our new number 1 https://www.shrewsburytown.com/news/2019/june/steve-arnold-on-northampton-move/Arnold made the number 1 spot his own with Shrewsbury after some great performances in the Town goal. In the end he came to the decision that despite enjoying this time at Town his family life needed to come first and he asked for a move closer to home. Steve has spoke to ntfc.co.uk about his move to join the Cobblers and spoke of his decision to leave Town. “There were a few clubs interested as my main aim to leave Shrewsbury was so that I could move closer to home”, said Steve. “Northampton made their interest known and I knew it was the club that I wanted to come to. “It was a tough decision to leave Shrewsbury but when you are at a club a long way from your family you sometimes have to make tough decisions. “I felt really at home at Shrewsbury and loved my time there and it was a really good club that was hard to leave, but ultimately my family time wasn’t up there which made it hard to stay there.”

As I said before Keith was working with players the previous chap signed and who were just not performing or up to it, he's now building his own team and on paper it looks decent so far.

Tracey seems to think we have done a really good bit of business in getting Arnold in.

To quote Curle from the article: "Part of the criteria that I put to Simon (Tracey), was that we wanted somebody that fills the goal, has a presence, so that when the ball is knocked into out box, he shouts 'keeper' and he is going to come and get it, and people are going to move out of the way.Which are of course qualities that are severely lacking from Cornell's game. I could count on the fingers of one hand I saw Cornell come and claim a cross last season if there was another player even remotely in the way, while regularly seeing opposition keepers have no problem with this part of their role.

Considering you went to relatively few games I am not surprised how you arrived at your methodology. Today I learnt from a friend living in Exeter that they have offered money for Cornell.

I'm a home season ticket holder Evers. I guess that doesn't allow me the right to an opinion on players. As to how I arrived at this methodology, I've held this view all season. An old post of mine regarding Cornell and this part of his game: I can't agree. The only time he 'claimed' any balls in the box where when he more or less under no pressure. With crosses which go in or just across his 6 yard box he consistently fails to come and claim or punch them away. Saturday was a case in point, the only time I felt like they were going to score was when they crossed into the box and Cornell was like a rabbit in the headlights and so it proved.
As to the goal it's happened time and again this season where he has failed to claim a cross and it has ended up bobbling around in his 6 yard area with defenders getting in the way of each other in a scramble to get it clear. The issue isn't the scramble in the 6 yard area as much as his failure to come and claim crosses before it gets to that point. This scenario will likely occur again at some point in the next 2-3 matches, as it has done consistently. We'll often get away with it, but we won't always. Personally I don't think he's big enough, strong enough or brave enough in this area at all for this level.
Curle's quote again: "Part of the criteria that I put to Simon (Tracey), was that we wanted somebody that fills the goal, has a presence, so that when the ball is knocked into out box, he shouts 'keeper' and he is going to come and get it, and people are going to move out of the way.

That’s fair comment but .... Cornell is very good at other elements of his game . He is a good shot stopper and attacks out of his area well ( Stevenage at home excepted ) . I think Curle believes in Cornell but is pressurising him to improve .

He is not a good shot stopper, beaten numerous times from distance. I have some loose change I can give towards the Exeter bid to round it up to a fiver?

One of the worst sayings in football, ".... A good shot stopper ..." All goalkeepers in the EFL are good shot stoppers, if a 'keeper isnt he will be playing Sunday morning football, even at that level ive seen good shot stoppers.

Not just Stevenage at home. FGR at home and Morecambe away were just 2 glaring examples where he cost a goal down to terrible decisions in this regard.

Name a goalkeeper in any league where you can’t point at mistakes during the season . Let alone division 2 !! He is generally good at reflex saves and attacking outside the box

He just isn’t though. Unless it is straight at him, it goes in.

It was the first goal he conceded at Notts County from 30 odd yards which finally did it for me. He is awful against efforts from range.

That is quite simply nonsense. I saw him make A LOT of excellent fingertip saves on the stretch last season. Cornell is not perfect, and I think Curle has identified his weaknesses, but he also makes a lot of saves other goalkeepers wouldn't. Some fans are clearly just out to get him.
