Cobblers have less ambition than most, every time they get promoted they take two steps backward and poorly invest money on transfers on anyone half decent they sell on at a more negative rate than most other lower league clubs. In a way it beggars the question why do the Cobblers seek promotion when they don't survive for long when they do go up.Not negative vibes just statistical reality.

Examples? The sale of Toney comes to mind, but struggling to think of any others.

The ones that angered me at the times, in no particular order...

1. Mark Bunn - 500k. I think we should have held out for more, kept him longer, paid him more etc. I believe Blackburn sold him on for 1 million, after he'd hardly played a game.
2. Bradley Johnson - 250k? Which was absolutely, utterly ridiculous!
3. Ivan Toney - 500k? Crazy. But I recall there being a big debate at the time, a lot of our fans didn't rate him much. Subjective one maybe.
4. Michael Jacobs - whatever it was, it was no where near enough. Proven as his career progressed.

Since KT has been here, the only one that miffed me was Ricky Holmes. I have never understood to this day why we sold him days after the season had finished rather than invite a dutch auction! There must have been something said/agreement in place/clause in his contract or something, guess we will never know.

I could go back further - Micky Bell, Steve Brown were both sold too cheap. Bobby Barnes and Tony Adcock!  Grin

Infact, when did we ever 'rob' a club? I cant recall it ever bloody happening!

Sure it came up in the accounts in a round about way? Remember that figure being bandied around.

But I get your point!  Grin

I think the ex chairman might be the only person that knows the true figure - along with the police investigation !

I was under the impression that Toney was sold to Newcastle for more like £150,000 not half a mill. Also Adcock and Barnes were sold on the cheap by the administrators because we were broke. Fire sale!

Our owners are culpable for us being to L2 with their botched managerial appointments

They're also culpable for us still being in the football league.

Im sure McRitchie sold them during the protesting period, I remember the administrators arriving and making redundant a load of players which culminated in us playing a very youthful team at Barnet on the Saturday straight afterwards.

Henderson's a good one, but then I wasn't thinking of players who have 'made it' after we'd got shot of them. There's been a fair few, Steve Morrison, Billy McCay or whatever his name was. More a case of those who were clearly very good, in demand but we let go without really trying to keep them. Think Pboro...they give their players improved contracts etc, then get more money for them a bit further down the line.

With Pierre, a combo of his age, his current hefty wage, not wanting to be here, 1 year left on his contract etc...we were best off taking the money.

I've just thought of another one mind...Steve Howard! 50 fcuking grand we got for him!!!

Did we get ripped off with Luke Chambers too? He's been a very solid Championship defender for over 10 years, sold when he was 21 after played over 100 games for us and we were in League One at the time. Should have got a decent fee for him?

The Mark Bunn transfer doesn't seem a terrible price for a lower league 'keeper over 10 years ago. Bradley Johnson was probably sold a little cheap, but at least he wasn't sold on a free as Leeds ended up doing when he went to Norwich. The fee Derby paid for him can't really be compared when taking into account transfer fee inflation and and the increase in his reputation due to the hundreds of games he had played in the following 7-8 years. Jacobs was sold by Derby for less than they bought him off of us, and the fee Wigan paid Wolves was not much higher than the fee we received for him as well.

In fact the combined fees for Johnson, Jacobs and Bunn was £1.3M and the combined fees for each of their next transfers was also £1.3M.

Well Shane, I must qualify 2 of these comments, we got a very good deal on Steve Brown and Mickey Bell was subject to a Tribunal fixed fee by a Football League Panel........with a price that infuriated Wycombe at the time. I know because I was there !

As for the awful deal to Posh, although not involved, for Barnesy and Tony...the club was absolutely desperate just to stay afloat.

This transfer is the worst kept secret on the planet. As soon as last seasonwas over it was odds on Pierre was on his way just like lastseasonwith Crooks and VonVeen.Too many people  contributing to this site need to get real and smell the coffee. The Cobblers have been and always will be a selling club-fact.
Few if any have displayed surprise he's gone - as predictable as the expected "smell the coffee" slant - you win the prize!
That doesn't mean fans can't be gutted! Nor was it obvious he'd go to such a footballing powerhouse - namely, the ex-coracle using Shrews!

And there is the very example of when many cite Cobblers fans as lacking ambition!

How long are you going to keep that one in the trophy cabinet?

Drilling asks " did we ever rob a club", I think we might have robbed Nuneaton of Trevor Morley, Richard Hill and Eddie McGoldrick.

They got their own back a bit when they sold us Paul Culpin a couple of years later?
