I’m assuming McCormack and Pollock have knocks? What did Roberts look like - the Chron were saying that he’s bulked up over the summer?

No game time for Goode, Turnbull or Watson plus the two you mention.

Roberts looked quite sharp first half and he does appear to have bulked out since last season.

3 new signings, Watson, McCormack, Goode, plus Turnbull, Pollock not involved. Hoping it's not interest from elsewhere with Pollock

I suppose Roberts did look less skinny. Looked fit, did ok, but he should against that level of opposition.

Liked the look of Warbuton. Quite decent on the ball and a nice finish. Looked dangerous when he found space running between the big men. Oliver was the surprise for me. Big, strong, works hard, and more skilful than I expected. Cracking overhead kick.
Suppose Smith will be disappointed to be the striker that didn't score.

Thought Waters and particularly Hoskins were notably behind the others in terms of quality.

Trialists didnt particularly impress. Thought the centre mid did the best and was ok, but didnt see too much special.

Can't judge the defence or GK today. If anything Hall-Johnson impressed me more than Martin, but he does look far too small for a central defender to me.

Bunny got a lot of game time

Today’s opponents are Hoskins level.

Quite a decent report Owlie,

Agree about the trialists; H-J looked good, quick and a footballer too! Thought that Roberts failed to make much of an impression against limited oppo. Warburton looks good; another footballer! Hoskins and Waters about the same - pretty average, perhaps Waters shone a bit more. Goal keepers nothing too do but nether the less impressed by new goalie 'communicating' with people etc, looked safe too.New left back played ok but also had nothing against him. Up front Smith looked useful and had one or two good football moments. Oliver was impressive and all his goals were well taken particularly the last two; the overhead kick was class. Bit too early to judge but Oliver looks a real find, strong, direct and should score goals at L2 level. Smith and Oliver real handful together. Adams put a great cross in for Oliver to head home. We need perhaps a speedy right winger who can cross the ball accurately and possibly a nippy fwd to compliment the big two up front. Hughes played in both halves but was not seriously challenged, Bunny did ok there too, took me a few moments to realize he was playing in centre of defence. Encouraging overall team performance with at least 3/4 players excelling; big difference in quality between the first half team when compared with the 2nd half team.

I think it was 4-4-2 1st half

First half :- Cornell; McWilliams, J.Williams, Hughes, Bunney; Roberts, Lines, French trialist, Tyson (trialist); A.Williams, Morias.

Second half possibly 3-5-2 :- Arnold; Hall-Johnson, Bunney, Martin; Hoskins Newell, Warburton, Waters, Adams; Smith, Oliver.

I was looking for the subtle bits today, and for me Warburton was the stand out. One instance, he brought the ball down, spun on a sixspence...sadly he missed, but the skill used to get into that position was sublime. Not something you often see from a Cobblers player, regardless of the opposition. He also seemed to have the ability to run in the box late, and find space.

Harry Smith, what a unit. An oversized Steve Howard. Stroppy fcuker as well!  Grin

Tyson...wtf?! Don't get that one at all. Why are we even looking at a 37 year old whose done nothing for 10 years? Does KC think he's some kind of miracle worker and will be the man that will revitalise the bloke after he's stolen the living as a striker for gord knows how long since he last had a decent season?! Sorry; couldn't let this one past. Thankfully, and I mean this...he didn't have a good half, so hopefully that little flirt will fizzle out nice and quick!

All in all...good work out. Moved the ball nice and quickly. Nothing negative (other than Tyson) to 'report'. The players all looked hungry, fit, ready to go etc. Onwards to the next game and tougher opposition.

I almost forgot that. Genuine Premier League quality first touch and turn. (Followed by a non-league shot, but at least he made up for it with an accurate longer range goal.) Agree about the late runs too. Worked well as the centre backs clearly worry about Oliver and Smith, then little Warby speeds in there to meet the low Adam's cross.

Hoping to see that touch and the Oliver overhead on the highlights.

Did think we lacked pace down the flank. Adams is fantastic but rarely outpaces a full back. Hoskins does, but then slices it out for a goal kick.

I doubt it was 3-5-2 more like 4-4-2. As far as I could make out Hoskins was RW and H-J was RB.

Enjoyed what I saw today. Obviously Sileby are no opposition but  you could see we've got some footballers now. Lines ran the show first half. Roberts looked OK, second half Warburton showed glimpses of what we can expect, Olivier impressed as did Nicky Adams. Smith will be a handful and was hacked off at the end for not getting enough chances on goal, berating his team mates for all trying to score. Joe Bunney was back Fromm the wilderness, playing LB first half and CB in a 3 second half. He seemed quite relaxed and happy with his team mates too. All in all a good exercise and it whets our appetite.

Christ, even Bugbrooke put 9 past them in February and we've only done 7, despite being 8 league steps above them, we're gonna have to raise our game a bit if we expect to survive in League Two next season.

Not a bad turn out, would have liked to see a few more there though and help support local non league teams, if we decide to form a new team shake off the ownership of KT we could well be starting in that league and be the little non league team who need to get as many fans in as possible and when we get a friendly against the big guns of Kettering Town i'd hope they would bring a good 700 fans.

Bit of a shock to see Nathan Tyson in the squad, i think he'd be better of going to the conference if he wants to hit the dizzy heights of 5 goals a season, though his experience could help the kids if he trains with them.

Was impressed with the glimpses we've seen of Matty Warburton, league two will be a step up for him but from the looks of him he'll actually work hard and try his best every game.

Not quite sure what you expected a 10 nil win or more local support for Sileby? Either way you don’t make a great deal of sense

Free hit giving him game time. Plus with three players being protected for knocks, without the trialists.. others would have to have played more then 45.

More like 5 being protected - McCormack, Watson, Goode(?), Pollock & Turnbull. Plus, you have Whaler who is just coming back from injury and no sign of Camron McWilliams, is he injured also?

It’s great to support local clubs financially and have a beer in the sun if you can be bothered to go but the Sileby game means very little . Sileby are not even a decent side locally really .
I remember Joe Iacafano scoring loads there a few seasons ago and then never played a first team game afterwards .
it’s a fitness test and nothing else .
It is interesting Morias is not on the trip to Spain. Makes everyone’s intentions clear that is for sure. Meanwhile Bunney looks like he might be staying .

i did at one point think that this was a crucial world cup qualifier.
