Can anyone ever remember us playing 3-5-2, under any manager, and us looking a good team ? I go to all the home games and a good percentage of away games, have done this since the County Ground days, but I struggle to remember ONE game where we've looked good with 3 at the back.

CC routinely played 3 at the back when we won promotion.
Wilder regularly played 3 at the back during the great escape season, most notably against D&R away and Oxford at home.

Atkins. Reached League 1 play off final. It was more 5 at the back than 3 5 2 and was not pretty to watch.
I would much prefer 4 at the back, but hey ho.

with Ian Taylor in the side we could have had none at the back? Just my opinion.

I like the 3-5-2 but I don't think we could afford players intelligent enough to deploy it correctly, certainly not as a league 2 club.
If we get back to league one and with bigger attendances, more beverage sales and fans who are more supportive of a manager, I think 3-5-2 to could be the answer to us actually not living in the league one relegation zone each year.

It's a bit like zonal marking, maybe you only notice it when it doesn't work ! But I did notice that there was lots of space for attackers in the full back positions on Saturday

Doesn't really matter what formation is used. A good team will always find space. It's what is done when in possession in that space that counts. Defensively, if playing 3-5-2, the space to exploit is in the full back positions (ie wrong side of the wingbacks). That's where you need all three CB's to be switched on to the danger, and where we probably don't have the budget for that quality of player as has been mentioned earlier.

I've only seen Arnold for half a game, at Sileby, where I could have played in goal. Cornell was good on Saturday, so I think it's all to play for still.

Last night, another example of when we ditch 3-5-2 and switch to 4-4-2 , we look a good side.

was the 4-4-2 the 4-2-3-1 we were playing?

No, more like 4-1-4-1 McCormack was definitely the deep sitting midfield player with Lines and Warburton more advanced.

I think McC is suited to that position and in any case his mobility might be an issue. His postioning on Friday was astute but he is there primarily to protect the back three. Thought that S.McW could play a similiar role plus has more mobility.

Or in yesterday's case the two centre halves. I agree McWilliams could play that role.
