isnt wedderburn able to play centre half as well - i'm sure that was said by sammo when he signed him ?!

he did also say that holt could play there as well so it might be bollocks.

Yes he did say that but one of our downfalls last season was sticking people in defence that werent natural defenders. This is my only concern with the squad at the moment. If the back 5 all gel and stay fit then great, but when the inevitable injuries and suspensions creep in, are we going to plug the gaps with utility players or loans? I think we will see some high scoring games this season...

Although it looks on paper that we will score freely, the goals against column is still going to ply a vital role in our campaign next season. Just looked at the finishing table and it's remarkable how similar the top seven clubs records were regards conceding goals. The top four were seperated by just 2 goals, Chesterfield conceding 51, Bury and Wycombe 50 and Shrewsbury 49. We let in 71 so Gary Johnson will be hoping for a big improvement and will probably need it because even the great Graham Carr side that followed the same mantra as Johnson "We'll score more than you" only conceded 53 in their Championship season.

The best form of defence is attack... unless you're a turtle.

Yep, what he said.

On the subject of Wedderburn, I really do hope he can come good this year. Last year, Osman and Wedderburn were clearly our most solid centre-midifeld partnership, but it seemed like the management tried to do everything to stop them playing together.

I think the most pleasing thing so far is that we have different midfield options this year. Last year we couldn't scrap against teams that would come here, be physical and stop us playing. I think a centre-midfield partnership of Turnbull and Wedderburn won't get bullied like we would have last year. We also then have a creative centre-midfield partnership of Thornton and Davies which can play against the more 'footballing' team.

Either way, it's great to have so many options in the centre Smiley

That wasn't Carr's mantra. Even though he wanted the ball advanced up the field as quickly as possible, because 'if you don't get it in the box, you don't score.' But, just as important to him was the defenders pushing on, and squeezing the hell out of the opposition, with one of the tightest offside traps ever utilised by a Northampton side.

I'm not going to argue with you because 103 goals for and 53 against paints a different picture.

Yes, the offside trap was an important part, probably because defensively we weren't all that good, keeper Gleasure being particularly "average". However if the ball is constantly up the other end you don't need that good a defence, again something I think Gary Johnson believes wholeheartedly in.

Anyway, we'll agree to disagree.
