My all time favourite Cobblers chant
Who doesn't sing those words at Christmas when all around are singing the correct version?

Me, lanky Phil, and Lee, hailing a black cab at Trafalgar Square, the first one stuck his finger up and told us to faack off, the second one stopped and after being told our destination was Millwall declared, thats saaf of the river. He then got on his radio and asked directions. I thought that these drivers where supposed to do the knowledge. Bath city away in the cup, early nineties I think. Open terrace, and its pissing down with rain. The home fans were goading us about getting wet, until Steve Terry did a "whooosh" belted the ball into the roof, and shattered the gutter. They got very wet. We didnt laugh too much.. Falling head first over the barrier, when Lee Lee Lee Harper saved the penalty against the Mancs, I never did find my wristwatch amongst the mayhem. Sitting two on a seat during that Man City game, how many were in there? Leaving my keys in the Red Rover after a game, getting home and kicking in the cellar window to gain access, I forgot about the six feet drop the other side. A night in A+E wasnt much fun.

Exactly - even if it is under my breath.

Rochdale away 1981. Dicky Hutt on the pitch during the warm up in his black leather jacket. Missing the ball, falling over and hitting his head on the hoardings. I doubt anyone else can say "I was there", or at least remember it.
Blackpool home 1982, cup game. Having a petrol bomb thrown at me by some Blackpool fans out of the back of a furniture van in Abington Ave. Numerous hooligan encounters from that era but that one sticks out.

Phil Chard having a full on row with a well dressed middle aged gentleman (who was with his equally well dressed wife) towards the end of a match towards the end of season 92/93. I was near the incident stood on the cricket side Spion Kop half of the pitch (as opposed to Hotel End). What was that all about ? I seem to recall Stuart Beavon also getting involved. I believe Chard was Player Manager at the time.

Who remembers the Dave Bowen testimonial against Liverpool arranged as part of the Phil Neal transfer?
I was there. Stood in the Spion Kop.

So was I, on the Spion Kop as well, 2-2 with Emlyn Hughes scoring a late equaliser?

Being stood on the Spion Kop and only being able to see up to the half way line and having to rely on the Hotel End to let us know what might be going on. Thick Fog, against Notts County I think.

FA cup replays 1984. Round one. Living in Rugby, standing with my VS supporting mates on an open terrace getting soaked at Butlin rd, watching us sneak a win. Round two. Stood in the dry of the Hotel End waiting for the replay with Brentford when the ref to call it off due to fog. Missing the rearranged fixture because of work.

Sorry, wouldn’t have seen you as was in the seats. I rarely mix with riff raff don’t you know? Bizarre fact from that day though, Kevin Keegan looked uncannily like Brian May through the bottom of a champagne glass.

I remember a game(but not the year)at the County Ground against Millwall. I thought the floodlights had gone out when the worlds largest policeman stood in front of me with a Millwall fan in one hand and a Cobblers fan in the other, I swear he had both of them by their collars with their feet off the ground!
By contrast I remember and old boy in his eighties wiping away a tear when Mickey Bell scored a late equaliser/winner through a crowded Hotel End penalty area.

When very young can remember watching Freddie Ramscar play and also Reg Elvey. Memorable moments was the game at Millwall in 1961 I think - where there was a 'boxing match' between Gale(centre half) and Howarth of Millwall; both sent off, Gale with blood pouring from his head and Howarth with huge black eye. An even more memorable game was at Crystal Palace where we paraded new signing Cliff Holton; he scored 3! In my view the best striker we have had so far. Was at Brighton where we won 0-5 in 1964, Kurila and Branston were outstanding as was Frank Large who scored 3. In more recent times Ricky Holmes games at Stevenage, Luton and the draw against Mansfield, big mistake for him to leave us! I failed to get back to the coach in time whilst in Bury Market and was abandoned so had to make the 17 miles on my own initiative. Arrived just in time to witness Bayo's goals which included a thumping header. No longer a great drinker but the antics of a boozer inside Coventry Stadium at one of the internal stair entrance was entertaining. CW man management style in front of support at Accrington and Notts County were impressive.

Cambridge away 86-87 was the greatest all time away performance and it’s beyond dispute, so what do you think about that then? Eddie McGoldrick was immense, I remember the lyrics from the song that day, basically because there was only one word with 2 syllables in it, “Edd-ie”. It was sung for virtually the whole of the second half. 2-0 down at half time and we were rubbish. Came out second half and inspired by Eddie we played them off the park. The determination and ability displayed was honestly unbelievable, it was like watching Barcelona against Brixworth and we won 3-2. Current squad take note!

Was it Trevor 'GOD' Morley who scored the winner at the end of the game or did the consumption of alcohol at the party in St Neots afterwards dull my memory?

And remember, Trevor Morley never dived to win penalties,OK? he just sort of imploded or melted into an untidy heap! Worked nearly every time!!

He did lots of exaggerated flinging of his head forward to get a free kick against the centre half for pushing off of Gleasures goal kicks. It was almost like he was watching Motörhead in concert?
