He arrived at that nickname, because is name is James. And a dyslexic kid at school could not pronounce it properly.
Brian is his middle name. I know this, because he told me so. And the only reason that I revealed this, is because he is becoming increasingly dangerous towards us getting a rap on the knuckles, because of his foul mouth. And racist attitude. I dont like being a "grass", but he has had plenty of warnings in the past.

Ok, I get that now.
I was simply curious, you're not a grass mate.
His utterings have nothing to do with his nickname.

Just ban the guy and don't make excuses for him.

I have known Uncle Brian since his Plessey days
He does get carried away if the game goes badly for us. To ban him is very harsh; if he is caught bad mouthing players, or even worse racial aggravated comments then he can't complain if he is banned for a short time. He has been supporting the Cobblers H & A for 50 years foul weather or not. I always exchange pleasantries with him whenever we meet up.
My abiding memory of him is a game at Cheltenham where every woman within 30yds  moved away - poor darlings. He Is a fixture to me!

And the fact that Hoskins’ contract expires in the summer makes it more typical/ironic.

I'm not sure that Hoskins has the ability to turn on the talent at will.

Agree. What may have been acceptable to shout on the terraces 50 years ago isn't acceptable now. Times change and you have to change with them if you want to continue to play a part in society.

I think it's partially an age thing. An uncle of mine always refers to "the p*kis next door". He actually likes them so it's  not an abusive thing on his part, he just can't see anything wrong in using that term because he's always used it. Strangely, his brother really is an appalling racist and he objects to some of the riper invective he spews out and yet can't see how "the p word" is just as bad!

Is the second person your dad or another uncle?
Quite unusual to be an 'appalling racist' yet balk at the use of racist language by others

It is easy to confront Brian on Racism; he is often on one of the buses or in local well known pub chain. Take the opportunity to remind him of his responsibilities.

Racism is always an interesting topic to hear people’s views on? Personally I have never understood why it is offensive to use the abbreviated form to describe people from ****stan? Much in the same way I wouldn’t be offended in being called a Brit because I am from Britain. The point is it doesn’t matter what I think, if others find it offensive then you don’t use it, and respect the wishes of those who may be affected by it, simple?

Not a real supporter but unelected chair of the Northampton Town Honorary Supporters Club. (Please note: any opinions given may not necessarily be shared by proper supporters. In incidents of conflict the views of real supporters shall take precedence).

Another uncle. I was conscious that didn't read particularly well but I didn't want to use names! Uncle 1 isn't what I'd class as a racist but calls his neighbours the p-word. Uncle 2 is an out and out racist and uncle 1 doesn't like uncle 2's views. I try not to have much to do with uncle 2, to be honest...

Well observed . Not sure about the word “another” though.
You might have missed the bit on your highlights package which shows their player cut inside with ease on the wing back and fail to be closed by two central players before shooting ?

Yes, but you can't expect objectivity from Manwork on the subject of Cornell. I don't remember him saying anything about Arnold's clanger the other week (which was worse than anything I've seen Cornell do this season).

No thanks .
It’s up to people how they conduct themselves but don’t expect to be accepted socially if you don’t comply with the norm .

But that's part of the problem, when Brian started to go to football, that WAS the norm. Brian still wears the same cloths , does the same things in life and behaves the same as when he first went to the Cobblers. He hasn't changed but society has.

To change the subject. I thought the fan owned Grecians were a welcoming, friendly, helpful and apparently well run club. Their fans were biased, of course, and their players spent a lot of time on the ground appealing for fouls but thats expected these days. Had a good chat with their fans at St James Park station afterwards as well.

Unless he was in the Bee Gees, always wearing shades , even in the Seventies, is questionable.

Shocked that he's called Brian...surely there's an NHS term these days for such a condition!

Must say, I don't get too close to him, though despite the continual slaughtering of the players, even in the league champion winning days, don't recall any actual racist language, but will take others' word for it.

Genuine question, where were you going to be at St James Park station?
Thought hardly used if ever for a number of years!

Its adjacent to the ground on the Exeter to Exmouth line, got a train through to Paignton. A well used station! Being extended.

You must have missed the goals from the Swansea game.
