I don't think that Stevenage are now becoming a difficult team to beat as they have been the same all season, 7 draws in 13 away games with only 15 goals conceded. Their problem lies at the other end of the pitch as they have only scored 6 times in those 13 games and despite some occasional nice interplay our goal was rarely threatened. They may still stay up as Morecambe have been conceding more goals but they do carry more of an attacking threat. Also there are other poor teams only a few points above.
Bringing only 252 fans to what would be one of your nearest away fixtures and usually only getting home crowds of around 2000 do they deserve a football league club? I am aware that several other division 2 teams also get woefully small home support ( as do division 1 Burton). However, I imagine most of our supporters would prefer Stevenage to stay up as it is a local game.
Stevenage played the better football yesterday and hit the bar for good measure, get over it pal.

Played the better football (in your opinion) but still lost. Just proves playing the better football doesn't always win you games  Wink

Their 'keeper also had to make more saves. I'd say it's you who need to get over that we won!  Grin

That’s a fair comment but we were very lucky to win that one.

That wouldn’t be hard with Cornell in goal  Grin
Nobody was more happy than me with the win.

You could also say that in previous games this season that Crewe, FGR, Plymouth and Swindon also played the better football but they all lost to us. It is a results game which is why we are currently in a play off place.
Other teams like Stevenage have come and played some pretty football but created few goal scoring chances.
Stevenage had one shot clip the bar but other than that Cornell was rarely troubled, had we taken half of our chances we would have won comfortably (as against Crewe) without playing really well.
The EFL football highlights programme showed our dominance of chances created and if Oliver had converted in the 2nd minute I believe we would have gone on to win easily.

OUT: Cornell, Waters, Williams, Kaja (released)
OUT LOAN: Warburton, Pollock plus as all youth team graduates

IN: Fisher (loan extension), 2 x Strikers (one loan,one permanent), 1 x CM, 1 x CB

All incoming will be 'veteren' type players other than players brought in on loan.

Other posts have mentioned creativity and that we are missing players to create chances however I believe Warburton could still be the solution, other than early in the season when he played with generally just one up front (usually Smith) he has not been given a great deal of time and I feel would benefit from playing behind two up front providing one is a quicker striker who is more likely to make runs in behind the defence. Additionally, he has also not been in the same eleven as McCormack who would actually be able to play the ball into his feet rather than relying our aerial assualt landing somewhere near him.

Despite Williams goal-scoring record this season I'm still not sure Curle rates him and can see him being moved on to make way for Curle's players. Similarly I think Cornell will be off, dropping him for the Crawley game was probably enough for Cornell to realise he may be better off elsewhere.

Finally, with the current injuries this would be a good oppotunity to see what we have in Jack Newell who from what I understand can tackle and pass potentially giving us an understudy to McCormack however I suspect he will be sent out on a month's loan somewhere as with all other youth team graduates and Curle will proceed with Lines, Anderson and Watson with one/two players making a cameo appearance such as Harriman, Hall-Johnson or Martin.

Southend, Rotherham & Newport County are interested in Paul Anderson. Judging by his comments KC wants to keep him but may now have to offer to extend his contract beyond the end of this season.

I heard he lives in Melton Mowbray, if so I think that would count out Southend and Newport

Bit of an odd one as he was never used, but Fishers loan has come to an end.

With the £135K prize money earned today, this cup run has earned us approx £250K so far...

Should help with recruitment this month...providing KT let's KC spend some of it!  Grin

Just been given this info too...

Basically, if Cardiff beat Carlisle in their replay, we get another £250K for being the last L2 club left in the draw.
If Carlisle win their replay and we both get knocked out in R4 then we share the £250K prize money...

CM and ST in.

Warburton out on loan.  Not getting sufficient game time and was poor this afternoon when subbed on.

Got a nagging feeling KC would let A.Williams go if an offer came in, so may need 2 forward targets.

Although we have banked a quarter of a million so far, with the potential extra quarter of a million if Carlisle get knocked out in the replay, and with the 4th round draw to be made which could see us net over half a million in gate receipts and potential TV money, this could be a very interesting window.

Alternatively if the money is not "spent" then there are bound to be questions......

I have to agree with this,

Although A.Williams is the most natural finisher you get the sense that cure wants two athletic forwards who are going chase loose ends.

On Warburton , I felt sorry for him Sunday. The ball was just being hoofed up to him and you could see him getting frustrated as the game just passed him by, then when he did get touches it was obvious he is not sharp and needs to be playing more regularly.

I think this is only clearing us a Van Veen on a 2 year deal, assuming the other quarter million is even a thing, so some restraint with expections.

Yes the other quarter million is a thing, as confirmed by the C&E today. Providing of course Carlisle don't go any further than us in the competition, and it will be shared if we go out at the same stage.

It was confirmed by the Chron, but all I can see is reference to it in last seasons competition. If it was a £750k total windfall which was shared out for one season then we won't get it this season. There is no mention of it for 2019/20 on the FA Website.

Even the Chrons report today is lifted from an article last season where five clubs got a share, and the comments made were made in March...last season. They also say about getting a share from the EFL...but as we know the FA Cup is run by the FA not the FL!
