What are you going to do in New Street at 0915 on a Saturday morning?
Something you cannot do, given your choice of employment. Its a long day out, and an early start...

It's not what you know it's who you know! Very competitive £10 return price as Trust coach prices are £15! GPC should be congratulated on his initiative.

Praise from Everbrite.....wow!! As there is less than two weeks to the game it was not possible to get an additional path(s) for dedicated football specials....ie leave Northampton non stop to Bescot. However, that got me thinking whether there would be demand to run a special to Crewe for the away game later in the season. Works logistically....as both Northampton and Crewe have traincrew depots, so Driver and Guard isn't a problem, plus there's room to put the train away at Crewe whilst the game is on, then bring it back out for the return. Seatwise…….you'd be looking at 250 for a 4 coach train and 500 for an 8 coach. What do you think?? Wouldn't like to suggest it then find only 100 take it up...company would lose money and i'd be in their bad books!! Plus, how would it sit with the Travel Clubs if the train took all their custom?

Excellent work re Wazzull... For Crewe I think it would sell really well, especially if we’re in the playoffs at that time of the season.

Not wishing to upset any potential apple-cart I prefer to use 'congratulate' not the misleading meaning word 'praise' with its sycophantic connotations. This is merely my POV and not necessarily yours!

Failed at the first hurdle with regards to a special for Crewe i'm afraid. Its only 8 weeks away which might seem like a long time, however its not when it comes to the train planning world. You have to source the crew, you have to source the train, and you have to source the pathing.
On a normal weekend, with enough notice, and a guarantee of 250 tickets being sold for the train this might have worked with a bit more notice. However, April 4th is also the date of the Grand National, and there is already one charter train from London to Liverpool taking up a path south of Rugby, with another two charters through Crewe at times similar to those we'd want. So the line is full!!
Planning have advised me that trains will be strengthened for the day anyway seeing as that event is on, but they're confident that there is sufficient capacity to cater for Cobblers fans travelling to Crewe, either via Birmingham New Street or via the TV line changing at Rugby.
Be aware though...anyone thinking of going by train to this one, the Advance Purchase fares will be scarce enough already........
If we get promoted......or perhaps even if we didn't, what we can do is look at next seasons fixture list and pick a game to go to by train......and then try and make the necessary arrangements. Crewe, if they go up with us.....Wigan if they come down, somewhere like that?

GPC that is bloody superb. Great great work. Definitely think we should sort a game for next year too. With enough plugging by fans, momentum will back this sort of initiative

They could always run a Class 37 or 47, there still seem to be quite a few about.

Trains make for a great away day
Though it's harder to take a mid journey slash now the doors dont have windows...

A rolled-up broadsheet makes for a good fallback position.
