The Cobblers travel to Crewe on 4th April, tickets for the game go on sale on Wednesday.
This is an easy one to get to by train, so here is my helpful guide to train journeys to the centre of the railway universe next month.
Departures from Northampton at 0814, 0914, 1013 and 1114 arrving at Crewe at 1036, 1136, 1236 and 1334. These are DIRECT, no changes necessary but they take the slow route via Birmingham. All are currently available for £6,00 SINGLE.
You can take any of those services and change at Rugby into the faster Trent Valley service, Only a 7 minute wait at Rugby, and normally a change of platform from platform 1 to platform 2. This way you get to Crewe 40 minutes earlier, with arrival times of 0953, 1053, 1151 and 1253. Again, these are all currently available for £6.00 SINGLE.
Coming back, direct services at 1702 (arrives Northampton at 1933), 1719 (1933 as it attaches to the first train at Birmingham), 1733, change at Rugby and back in NN at 1920, 1749 direct (1953) 1801 direct (2035), 1820 (2035 again, attaches to the earlier service at Birmingham) and 1833 direct via Trent Valley (2011 at Northampton)
All the above services are also £6.00 single, so pick your outward and pick your return and its £12 in total. Prices will rise as tickets are sold, so these fares are not available for very long.
As pointed out for the Walsall game, these fares are obtained by selecting trains and travelling on those specific services. The standard "any time any train" return fare is £37 on West Midlands Trains services only, or £72 if you want to include Avanti services in your options.
The ground is a 5 minute walk from the station, and there are a couple of pubs/bars outside (The Royal Hotel and the Crewe Arms) Chip shops can be found nearby, and there is a McDonalds 5 minutes away going out of town.
