PSG Have just been crowned Ligue 1 champions in France. Despite the season not being completed. This will have a knock-on effect everywhere.

I dont think professional football should start again until everyone of us who wants to engage in that sport is allowed to do so.
Whenever that is, the leagues should start again as they were left by playing the games remaining with whatever players are then available against whatever clubs are still solvent, and a final league table drawn up allowing for that.
Then the new season starts and if neccessary adjusted in numbers of games played to allow for the time remaining upto the traditional May season end, or cancelled altogether and started again in August (of the appropriate year).

I think we should end the season by playing all the remaining games but in a 5 a side format with two 15 min halves.

No draws and next goal wins if scores level at end of normal time. Rush keepers allowed.
So, who would you select in the Cobblers 5 then?

This is pretty much what I think is the best, you have to play the remaining games somehow, be it behind closed doors or even wait until early 2021 if we have to, and have the promotions & relegations that have been earned. When we've done that have a short break and fit in whatever sort of competitions we can for the first half of 2021, with no promotion or relegation and then start afresh in August 2021 with the League as we know it.

I think everything is dependent on when or if a vaccine for covid19 is developed. Without it football as we used to know it will be gone for the near future at least. Government money used to support all businesses will soon run out and even if the lockdown does come to an end there will be stringent rules on large gatherings and social distancing.

That could mean anything to football, as without the vaccine social distancing in life will be around possibly indefinitely. So unless there is funding from the premier league then what? 3 or 4 months before large gatherings are allowed? and then with every other row in the stadium not used maybe? 2 seats between every person/couple of people? for social distancing leaving a very sterile stadium? football done in empty stadiums filmed for a subscription basis?

How even viable is any of this? could say league 2 go into an almost hibernation with all clubs going into administration, releasing all players and staff and almost starting anew when it is safe to do so? do clubs try and brave it out with a situation where clubs mind become bankrupt on an almost weekly basis? do league 2 clubs become a quasi premier league b teams?.

Obviously what I’ve said is maybe far fetched and a worse case scenario, but some of the suggestions mentioned on here are very optimistic, a post covid19 lockdown world without a vaccine will be a very different one to what we were once used to.

The UK is still in the depths of this so we need to LOCKDOWN hard until we get those deaths and new cases down.

However we are in a great place to watch what other countries do where they have got those deaths and cases down already. Learn from them.

I fear that the football industry could be ruined like other industries and businesses. How many clubs can survive months with no income? There's so much uncertainty it's extremely difficult to plan for. I've heard the latest is no fans in stadiums until January 2021. That's probably worst case scenario planning but that could easily be the case. Football could change forever, life will change (has changed) for a very long time. If large gatherings stay restricted that's pubs, restaurants, sporting events, holidays, hotels all in big trouble and industries associated with them. It's very worrying times.

The main restriction will be social distancing until a vaccine is widely available. Therefore no fans in grounds until then!

The boss of Astra Zeneca has backed the Oxford University research and said a possible vaccine by the END OF THE YEAR!

I think matches could restart byAugust, with regular testing for players, but obviously behind closed doors.

The problem might be what teams will be in busiuness to restart?

You’ve got to hand it to KT it’s been some master stroke to wait until the world is hit buy a pandemic until
redeveloping the stadium
The cost of building it and the labour expense will now be much less and the club will be at an advantage due to this...

All of the stalling for half a decade has proved the right decision and I think we should all applaud the board for their great foresight.

I would add a note of caution...
I would expect work to start the very minute lockdown is eased in order to take advantage of these very unique opportunities as we never can tell if a second wave may come around thus delaying the completion of what has been to date a very speedy project.

On the contrary mate. I work in construction, and expect that if you can prove yourself to be virus free, then labour rates will increase. When I can get out of my house, and my hands on a testing kit, then I will charge more. Mercenary? YES. But I have had no work for the last six weeks.

in a small arena for five a side then I’d go for more compact players so yes Hoskins is in. So too would be Morton, Anderson, Goode and Cornell.

If it was over the years it’d be Holmes, Jacobs, McGoldrick, Elad and Bunn

Farm labourers wages increased following the Black Death for the very reason you suggest (labour shortage). Mind you the Black Death (roughly 1348 to 1350 on this island) reduced the population by between 30% and 45%. Just to make things worse the plague returned intermittently from 1361 right into the early years of the 15th Century.

Imagine the horror of this.

Again on the contrary, I would suggest that the number of fatalities will be exceeded by the number of conceptions, due to everybody being stuck at home. "Fancy a bit love? Yeah why not. Nothing else to do" I have finished the hoovering.  Grin
The population is not going to drop by 40% .
