We've done the strikers and there's another thread on defenders so hers one on attacking midfielders/wingers. Those that excite and those that score. Again mine date from 1986:

Richard Hill
Ricky Holmes
Eddie McGoldrick
Chris Hackett
John Hodge
Nicky Adams
Matthew Rush
Adrian Thorpe
Josh Low
Steve Brown

Mine are mainly wingers as I was struggling on the attacking midfielders.
Who have I forgotten?

I'd definitely include Dean Thomas and David Gilbert.

I rated Mickey Bell very highly as a youngster when he was a winger.

Michael Jacobs also.

Martin Smith, you should hang your head in shame.

Definitely Martin Smith should be in here but nobody we have had since Joe Kiernan has been in the same class. I would also mention Graham Moore, Billy Best, Brian Etheridge, Peter Denyer and John Farrington.

I used to have a boss 15 years older than myself whose memory of the Cobblers was of Joe Kiernan's sweet left foot. That and the cricket ground/football ground thing - also banged on about Colin Milburn, Dennis Brookes and so on.

We turned down a bid of £65,000 from Everton for Joe Kiernan. This was a lot of money in those days when I had recently started work on £28 a month and £1000 per year was decent money.

How about Bradley Johnson? He did once make a full England squad.

Derrick Christie was a decent winger too.

Did he, I didn't know that, but I agree, a really good player with a great left foot.

I'm surprised Michael Jacobs didn't kick on to be a prem midfielder, he was often so much better than all the others on the pitch.

As I wasn't born I've been trying to work out how the midfielders in the championship winning season lined up. Would it have been McGoldrick, Donald, Hill, Gilbert (r-l) as I know Hill also played on the left wing?, and would that mean Chard played at LB?

Also to add to the list, bit left field ....Paul McGregor, classy. and Ikechi Anya

Until his corners rarely got past the first post.

You weren't at the Burton Away game circa '15 when he tore their right back apart and then provided the winning corner which Langmead headed in. Best display of left wing play since Barry Lines!

An on loan from Ipswich Irvin Gernon played 9 games at left back. We also had John Millar on loan from Chelsea who played there. It was a problem position for us in 86/87. Irvin was good though, was an England U21 international. He resigned for us a few seasons later. He ended up working in insurance and living in Duston.

Yep, guilty as charged. Smudger should be in there. And Bradley Johnson, which means Josh Low and Steve Brown drop out.

Yep it was pretty much that midfield for most of the season. Amazing to think Richard Hill scored 30-odd goals from midfield.

Yep, I remember Kiernan giving George Eastham of Arsenal a lesson at Highbury in 65/66 season. We drew but should have won that game.

........and that game against Spurs which ended 1-1. We deserved all 2 points but for a homer ref in giving them a nothing penalty. My main memory from that game was Kurila out tackling Dave McKay -  what a display from Kurila. Should have drawn at least against Fulham too.And that emotional charged game against Sunderland the following Tuesday which we won 2-1...I think. The cheers for each goal were the loudest I have ever heard easily 'exceeding' John Frain goal, Stevenage and Portsmouth recent wins. Only memories now.
