........and that game against Spurs which ended 1-1. We deserved all 2 points but for a homer ref in giving them a nothing penalty. My main memory from that game was Kurila out tackling Dave McKay - what a display from Kurila. Should have drawn at least against Fulham too.And that emotional charged game against Sunderland the following Tuesday which we won 2-1...I think. The cheers for each goal were the loudest I have ever heard easily 'exceeding' John Frain goal, Stevenage and Portsmouth recent wins. Only memories now.
Definitely Evers. I was at those 3 games with my Dad (RIP) John Mackin went in goal for the injured Brian Harvey if I remember correct. We where 1-0 up and Mackin got his hand to the penalty (Jimmy Greaves I think) pushed onto the post and it crept over line if memory serve correctly. Still got the programme from that game, I was 8yrs old. I'm now realising how lucky I was to see them in the now called premier Lge. Thanks Dad. On the subject of wingers, Barry Lines & Eddie McGoldrick come mind. Keep safe everyone.

Don't forget John Buchanan (in my trio of all time favourites, depending on my mood whether he, Joe Keirnan or Frank Large are at the top of my list).

I'm old enough to remember Richard Hill ruling the midfield, who in my eyes was the best at The County Ground. Whilst I'm sure that will are others that controlled the games these are the ones that spring to my mind:
Richard Smith Michael Jacobs Marco Gabbiadini Gabor Gypes (just) John Joe oToole Ian Taylor Bradley Johnson (just) Ricky Holmes
Each had games where they ruled the midfield and seemed unplayable. Not every game of course, but enough to make them worth the entrance fee alone.

Lee Williamson was one of the best I've seen at Sixfields.

Glad to see Lee Williamson, Jason Garwood and Matthew Rush get mentions along with some of the obvious.

Can you please clarify why you mention Jason Garwood of LCFC who was a loan here about 20 odd years ago? Just curious as he played only a few times.

Shoemaker mentioned him, but like Matthew Rush another player who was on loan here both players stuck in my mind, with Williamson the manager at the time didn’t seem to rate him, I felt all 3 were interesting if not obvious mentions from others and all players I enjoyed watching.

In his hand full of games I thought Jason garwood looked a class act. He was the speediest player I’ve ever seen. I was amazed he never went on in his career but from memory he was in a different league ability wise to the players we had in the squad at the time. A wasted talent.

Michael Warner impressed me. Whatever happened to him? And Kyle Walker. Bit naive, but he showed some promise. What happened to him? Keep these threads coming Wadey. Because I am bored out of my head, sitting at home with the current Mrs T. Would you like me to order a takeaway love? Nah, Im on a diet. You dont want any pizza then? Nah, Im on a diet. It no sooner turned up, with chips, than the inevitable happened. How is it that I constantly end up paying? The bank of Tabasco is 24/7 so it seems.

No mention of Alan Woan who scored 68 goals in 119 games from inside forward. His son Ian played for Nottingham Forest. Also going back to the 50's & 60's Ray Yeoman (169 appearances) and Roly Mills (305 appearances) who was with us for about 10 years.

I know what you mean on the takeaway front - I keep seeing Just Eat appearing on my statements. Yeah, Michael Warner did look class but never really got a sustained run in the side did he? Ended up as a defender in non leagueI think. Ali Gibb anyone?
