https://www.ntfccommunity.co.uk/?fbclid=IwAR1d78r2oLMZ_1LxFZHUQ3Dj4OG1f4URwv4VQDQyNAhCkG8S7WUt_Z3JHCkThe Northampton Town FC Community Trust has been made aware through social media about donations to be received from the sale of facemasks by the Supporters Trust.
Unfortunately this endeavour has been done without any prior knowledge or approval from ourselves and therefore we will not be accepting any donations from this.
Whilst we are grateful of any donations we receive generally, we have to protect our reputation and we have no knowledge or information that these facemasks are of an acceptable standard.
Please understand that the Northampton Town FC Community Trust does not approve or accept any liability for these masks, and will receive no funding from the sale.

What a strange statement, this is what is stated at the point of sale "IMPORTANT: The masks on offer are not medical masks or manufactured to the specification of protective equipment required for use within clinical environments. However, they will help stop you touching your face, reinforce social distancing and will also help catch coughs and sneezes. They should be washed after every use (they can be machine-washed at 40c)." These masks are being manufactured in the UK by a company that has made thousands of them for Wycombe Wanderers and are exactly the same standard has ones sold by lots of sporting clubs, including the Saints. What makes it even more strange is that the Community Trust didn't even ask anything about them or ask to see one. It's almost like someone else made up their mind for them

And strange to say I understand that person may have been at Sixfields yesterday when this nonsense broke.
Charity Commission guidance to charity trustees states amongst other things:
"avoid putting yourself in a position where your duty to your charity conflicts with personal interests to any other person or body"
One of the Community Trust's charity trustee is NTFC CEO and employee James Whiting. Work it out.

Such a crass statement when the club needs all the friends it can get. My favourite part is "does not approve or accept any liability for these masks". So if you wear the mask but contract COVID-19, you would sue the Community Trust?

I kind of get it; they probably don't want to be seen to be profiting from the current crisis, particularly if there is a potential for the masks to attract negative press. That said, if you are going to say "thanks but no thanks" when someone tries to raise money for you, an important part of that is to actually say "thanks", otherwise it comes across as ungracious.

The sadness is that the persons who should benefit, namely the beneficiaries of the Community Trust, will miss out.
All this is due to the small-mindedness by the person(s) responsible for such stupidity. He/they/it should be ashamed. Crass, indeed. It may backfire because one day and maybe one day soon the help of the Trust will be needed and if it responded with Foxtrot Oscar this would be entirely understandable although I think the Trust is bigger than its adversaries.

But the Community Trust are quite happy to "profiteer" from the Supporters Trust Club 500, at the moment. The Supporters Trust are not making a penny out of these masks, we are having a board meeting tonight and will discus about which charity will want and get the money, if you have any, sensible, idea's post them on here and I will bring them up.

There's quite a difference between funds raised from a raffle and funds raised by people buying something because they fear for their own or their loved one's lives. If you want a suggestion as to where the funds should go instead, I'd suggest the NHS charity (assuming that's "sensible" enough).

Back of the Net, I think it is time you disclosed your connection with the club and/or the Community Trust. Employee or whatever I think it fair to ask and know. Time and again you come on here and make statements supportive of the club and its owners or anything connected with them. Today is no different albeit on behalf of what should be an entirely independent Community Trust and here you are trying to take apart the very sensible and accurate comments of Barton. Sone on here did not come down with the last shower.

Nobody who has done any research at all should be doing this (bold above). The point of wearing a non-medical grade mask is to prevent you from infecting others. There is next to no evidence that 'face coverings' (as govt call non-medical masks) do anything to protect the person wearing one. Edit: whilst I'm on accuracy... Would love to see the source of that 'helpful summary', linked above, on infection risks when wearing masks or not!

At this stage, as stated in the Trust advert, it's a fashion accessory that will provide a level of un-endorsed confidence to both the user and those in their company, which is something that has the potential to do more harm than good.

Completely agree. Certainly where I live, many of those wearing a mask seem to be less careful about keeping their distance like it's some sort of miracle shield.

Agree with this, but why has this post been moved ? It's all about the NTFC Community Trust which is , surely, Cobblers related ?

The more things change the more some people remain the same.
Disclaimer first. I am not currently or have never in the past been an employee of the football club or the community trust. I have in the past worked for a large cancer charity some 12 years ago.
My experience was that we on many occasions had to reject donations, offers of support, not approve events being held or sales of certain products from which we would benefit. The flip side of course is that there are many instances I could list of APPROVED events, products, donations that also exist.
The key word being APPROVED. There are multiple reasons this would happen. The underlying reasons are clear in that any charity is heavily reliant on it's reputation and the goodwill of those that support it. Without either of these you would cease to exist. Some people I dealt with over the years never understood this as ultimately they simply couldn't get their head round why we didn't just take every penny we could get especially if they felt the person involved meant well.
The problem is when an unapproved product is launched especially at a sensitive time if that product is faulty, of poor quality, suffers delays in delivery, isn't fit for purpose and I could go on with more....then that ultimately damages the reputation of the cause it was designed to support, the charity, not the middle man who meant well. That's why we had strict approval guidelines and would on occasions publicly distance ourselves from some events or products.
I have no idea if these masks are any good and have no doubt the idea came from a kind gesture. However you simply have to seek approval first which is what should have been done because the fact is when you are making grand public gestures of support you are directly linking the charity you are supporting.
Specifically is the lines of communication with the club are broken/damaged there is a reason for that. Maybe you fix that first or find a way to agree but also disagree.
