Your post suggests we were zonal marking rather than marking specific players - 2nd sentence.

Sorry, I was trying to be sarcastic, in that we're not even zonal marking.

If we're two goals up after 90 minutes, extra time and if still two goals up penalties.

I just hope no neutrals tune in to watch it .
Everyone without exception has questioned why I pay to watch that standard of football every week . It’s embarrassing .
The only chance we have of winning is if there is a dressing room Coup and players are allowed to express themselves .
We have some decent players - take the shackles off and tie Curle up in the showers with a gag on

Really? On our daily work conference call on Friday they'd all watched it (it's amazing what an absence of football will drive people to!). After they'd finished taking the piss out of me over the result the general consensus was what an entertaining game it had been. Later in the day one of the guys in my team who's still on furlough rang me specifically to say how much he'd enjoyed it. The result was poor for us and we can be critical of the use of subs knowing what other options were sitting unused on the bench, but I don't think we showed ourselves up by any stretch of the imagination.

I've had similar positive responses to the game of football that was served up, from people who would never normally dream of watching a Northampton game even on TV.

I think it stood out how fit both teams appeared to be, especially to anyone who had watched the earlier game between Exeter and Colchester which was played at a snail's pace. How I wish we had been playing one of those sides.

People were largely complimentary about us, saying we had the better chances in the game (no criticism of the style of play). Olayinka, Goode ("apart from the goal") and Morton were the three singled out as showing a bit of class by people who had never watched us before.

Received several messages yesterday during the Liverpool game saying they couldn't wait for the Northampton second leg, which was sure to be far more entertaining than the dross being served up.

Just hopeful that the result goes our way this time, but I don't think we shamed ourselves at all, we're probably more harsh on the standard of football in League Two than those who never watch it.

Likewise. I have work colleagues who watched it and said they really enjoyed it. I too thought it was an entertaining game despite the result.

Can we do it? Absolutely. Do I think we’ll do it? Like many, I think it is very unlikely. Why? Because I think Cheltenham are a better side both with and without possession. However, as we know, nothing is guaranteed and a lot will depend on the way we approach the game. One thing I’ve noticed from the three games against them this season is that they’re happy to sit deep and let you have the ball, trusting in their defensive shape. Clearly, it has worked for them but I do think we’ll be able to see a good amount of the ball and if we can be a bit more varied in our play then I still believe we have the players to hurt them. I suppose we have been surprised by the team on a few occasions this season (Burton away, the draw with Derby at home, Swindon away, beating Crewe 4-1 etc.) Anything is possible and if we can get in front then you’d like to think Cheltenham will be in that tricky position of deciding whether to defend what they have or going for another goal.

We have nothing to lose and I just hope that our performance reflects that, regardless of whether we pull it off or not.

It’s about time you found another club to support; you do yourself no favours in how you view NTFC etc.
How about MK not too far away; they would welcome you Roll Eyes

Again I had people at work who never watch us say how unlucky we were and we should have at least drew, had the better chances and enjoyed the intensity of the game, which is how I felt. I think sometimes we can be our own worst critics and when you don't rate the manager or like his style of football you can get blinkered and find the negatives.

Stating the obvious - the first goal tonight is crucial. However we don't need to panic if we don't score early either. Against Rovers in 1998 the first goal wasn't that early. Incidentally we have scored more goals per game this season than that season so if we could do it then, we can do it now.

I’m fairly new to this and don’t know the characters / politics but ...
Is Boot And Shoe genuine or is he a bot. If he’s genuine, why did his “mates” see a different game to the rest of us?
I’m sure we’ll give it a go tonight and all my Non-Cobbs supporting mates have put our game in a different entertainment stratosphere to all the other games they’ve watched since footballs return to the screen.
Finally, Boot and Shoe, do you want to share some of my friends and family in your bubble? Clearly the folks you are talking to are not good for your all so important mental health.

I hope I’m proved wrong but I can see nothing other than another footballing lesson being dealt out by a team who plays intelligent passing football rather than our hoof it in the air and throw it as far as you can approach.

It really hurts to say this but only one team deserves to grace wembley and it’s not us and I’ve been going over thirty years but I can honestly say what I saw the other night was an embarrassing attempt at playing football...
Even the Watford long ball team of the eighties had pacy wingers and the wimbledon crazy gang could play a bit.....

We have a slow centre half who throws the ball long from anywhere in our half
A midfield which is bypassed (mad when we have two quality wingers at this level....past it but can still make something happen)
A forward line that is frankly no good if you haven’t got anyone to hold the ball up and bring others into play...
Oliver blindly flicks everything on hoping it may fall to one of our players....
At 6’5 you’d hope smith may actually do a targetman role but who knows???

Although it’s not popular ...
If bayo was playing tonight we would win as he is the sort of player you need for hoof ball
We are playing hoof ball with half a team...

I think we will lose and Curle will be sacked/let go as I can see no way he will ever get a team promoted with his brand of hoof ball

Sorry for being negative.
