Football in Australia started again today with Sydney FC who are top playing Wellington Phoenix who are third. The game was played in front of fans, with even a few making the trip over from New Zealand. It's difficult to tell what the crowd numbers were, the Aussie commentators (one of whom was Robbie Slater - remember him) didn't say and in Australia they play in large stadiums where spectators can space out. From what the cameras showed though there didn't seem to be much in the way of social distancing. They made a fair bit of noise too.

For the record Sydney won, somewhat luckily, 3-1 with Adam Le Fondre scoring the first goal from the spot, his 18th goal of the season, following his 18 last year. Wellington had three English players in the side, Steven Taylor (Newcastle), David Ball (Fleetwood) and Gary Hooper (Celtic + others).

The game was played in the Australian winter which was unusual for them as they play their football in the summer.  Sydney need 1 point to win the league.
