With respect to Mr Barton, from my memory, only took over the reigns at Villa from Ron Saunders (?) after all the hard work had been done - bit like the great JFK, sorry, JFH at Burton. Was certainly no Paisley or Shankly and departed soon after the fortuitous European Cup win.
Ended up down the pile at NTFC, had a heart attack returning from a friendly (forgotten now - Shepshed?) and never returned!
Died sometime later. RIP.
Thanks for your reply. I think you're a tad harsh , he did take over from Ron Saunders who'd guided them to the league , but they did finish 6th and 10 th the following seasons.
But what I'm trying to understand is why from the top division to us in the bottom division?
Died too young that's for sure
