I was at Daventry hotel for a function one evening and Tony Barton came into the bar. He apparently stayed at this hotel during the week whilst with the club. A couple of my colleagues and I sat with him for some time talking football in general and Cobblers in particular and indeed he bought all of us a round. What a lovely man he was, very quietly spoken but he clearly had a really good football brain. I was very impressed with him and I think he enjoyed talking to us. I remember feeling however that he appeared physically a weak man and certainly not in the best of health and I did wonder how physical health must play a part for managers when dealing with all the psychological pressure management must bring. I remember him fondly, if only from my brief meeting with him. A really nice man.
