Disagree. I'm sure Curle could have kept Turnbull and Oliver if he really wanted to. Ultimately, he felt that it didn't represent 'value for money' to push the boat out to keep them so in effect it was a deliberate choice.
As I've said, it's too early to assess whether he made the correct call. IMO the loss of Turnbull is more of a **** because of the sacrifice in defensive continuity which will be exacerbated if Goode leaves.
Starting the season with two new strikers is less of a ****, but it will still take time for them to forge an understanding and we will have to be patient.
I suspect that like last season we will start slowly and take a while to 'gel' due to the high turnover of players. On the other hand, most players won't have kicked a ball competitively for six months so it might be a case of slow starts all round.
Getting rid of Turnbull was a big mistake much worse than loosing Oliver.

Neither will be a mistake if he signs two replacements for 'value for money' with the new circumstances, instead of Turnbull's silly JFH money! Trust in Curle and his management team, their track record is better than recent managers.

Fingers crossed we keep Goode, agree our recent recruiting has been better.

I think Bradford were also in the mix, but taking into account our form at the time and our tough run in we would have struggled.
Agreed...I was already looking forward (ahead) to another season in the Fourth, with a good possibility of automatic promotion...

Bradford were in terrible form (3 wins in 14, 2 of which were against Morecambe and Stevenage) and had an impossible run-in (Port Vale, Exeter, Colchester, FGR, Crewe, Cobblers). It would have been tight but I think we would have made it along with Port Vale by finishing above Col U, though obviously we'll never know.

So , if you worked alongside someone earning three times as much as you And your colleagues but doing the same job - how do you think that would go down with everyone ? Exactly . That’s why he had to leave .

I can remember quite a bit of criticism on defensive displays flaring up; even the Chron after certain defeats questioned the performances of defenders. Strangely enough Cornell did not figure significantly in these criticisms. Perhaps more to the point after some defeats particularly the latter part of season where we endured a poor run there were quite a few murmurings of discontent. Am surprised that a generally astute commentator on here seems fit to throw up a misleading opinion!

I thought it was a bit obvious to point out that legacy contracts are different to new contracts issued . It’s a level playing field now and it wasn’t when the Chinese money was around. They shifted Taylor and KVV but Turnbull remained because he was arguably over paid .

I am really not sure how transparent the players earnings are to each other?

Perhaps also a bit obvious to suggest despite any wage disparity the team still did well enough to get promoted. I seem to remember Curle leaving Turnbull out the side for periods... which I thought was a case of cutting his nose to spite his face at the time. I hope not offering him at least a reduced contract isn't another. And it would be a very dull and incentiveless place if everyone earned the same.

Eaton? Long Eaton Invaders Speedway...went once! Water Eaton...just over the fields from me... potential new home for Headington Amateurs. Then there's Eton! Getting soapy and washing...in answer to Pedjs' musings!
