Absolute joke of a competition. Why do we still need to have a group stage when the fixture calendar is being reduced elsewhere? Ridiculous.

the clubs keep voting to keep it - so they must benefit financially from it?!

possibly more so than losing in the FA cup first round!?

Don't think the excitement will really kick in until we draw Colchester Utd in Round 2!

About time that fa cup replays and two legged league cup semifinals have been binned, but yes this competition if kept should’ve just been a straight knockout.

We have this discussion every season but;

1. I enjoy the games when I go - the key issue.
2. It gives the peripheral players a competitive game.
3. It will provide the public with entertainment when so much else has been cancelled.
4. We actually stand a minor chance of winning it.
5. Less need to be concerned about safe distancing if we opened all the stands for the games at home.
6. The club must benefit from it or they wouldn't support it.

I think the competition isn't helped by some of the tinpot sounding naming deals that go on, Johnstone's Paint Trophy springs to mind. Interesting that no deal is in place this year so it reverts back to just EFL Trophy.

I can appreciate why people don't take it particularly seriously, but I think it provides a good opportunity for smaller clubs to get to a Wembley final which is a nice earner. Yes it might not have the attraction of drawing a big PL club and there's no opportunities for big upsets but I see it as a nice distraction.

Perhaps it's just the lack of football I've had lately but if crowds were allowed to return for these Round 1 fixtures I'd be there in a heartbeat.
