We meet Leyton Orient in a behind closed doors pre-season friendly this Saturday - 22nd August 2020 kick-off 1pm.

Possibly three trialists and six new signings to get some game time in readiness for our league one campaign.

The game is being streamed live on the clubs YouTube channel.

Interesting to see if the CB trialist still get's a game now, of if we are happy to go with 3 on the books plus the kids. Also good to see a fair few new players for the first time, and if it looks like any of the academy prospects are going to be in our plans this year.

Leyton have already had a pre-season game, and are probably ahead of us in squad cohesion, so going to be more about the performance than the result today.

Think today will be more about fitness and a bit of bedding for some new players. Not going to be as alarmed by any scores

I agree we do need 1 more CB in and obviously some Strikers but this is a perfect opportunity for Ballinger to impress if he gets time in the defence and show he could compete in the season and maybe a young Striker to impress

Ballinger is a left wing-back of left midfielder. So, he won't be cover for centre-back. However, Martin & Harriman have both played in that position in the past. Martin probably played his best game for the club and don't forget has played most of his career in league one and the championship.

Lineups been announced

Mitchell, Harriman, Horsfall, Bolger, Mills, Missilou, Watson, Marshall, Hoskins, Warburton, German (t)

Our trialists this afternoon include strikers Antonio German and Ricky Korboa, midfielder Samir Carruthers and defender Connor Johnson.

German has done virtually nothing since he was on loan with us
Korboa looks to have come from non league and scored a bunch
Samir Carruthers sat on Cambridge’s bench last season
Connor Johnson formerly of our academy but left for Wolves, got released this summer

Wow. Great signings yesterday but scraping the barrel big time with these trialists. I hope they are just there to make up the numbers rather than being considered. With all the money taken in lately we need to be spending some of it, not giving the likes of German his umpteenth chance.

Korboa and Johnson are probably worth a look but the other two are surely here on the basis of us doing them a favour until they get a club?

Carruthers career seems to have gone downhill the last few years. Not sure if thats due to injuries or off the field issues. But he has played a season in the championship and played plenty of L1 games. He offers something different so if he can return to anything like his former self could be an interesting one.

Definite no on German, we had him on loan years ago right?

No idea on the other two.

Carruthers was/is a hell of a player but he's had a catalogue of knee injuries. Think Wilder may have signed him? Still in his 20s but surely too much of a risk.

Am I alone in thinking that the "quality" of triallists on show are a bit lower than we should be looking at when embarking on a campaign in League 1?

I assume its just bodies to fill positions until we sign some proper strikers.
