David Capel ex England an Northants cricketer has died.
I faced Capes in the nets a few times in the early 80's. Even then he was full on even when bowling to a rank amateur like me. A great representative for the county.

Yes, sad news indeed.

I remember watching him play for the county and England. At the time we had good representation in the England team with Capes, Rob Bailey and Allan Lamb. If I remember rightly they were in the England team at the same time.

RIP David Capel.

A Northants legend has died far too young. Very saddened. Thanks for all the great memories.

I played for my local village club in the South of the County. I was asked to attend winter training at Deanshanger by a Mr. Reynolds. Had a few weeks net training with the likes of DC, some chap I forget with a double barrel name and one or two others. TBH even if my kidneys hadn't have failed the following spring, I was never as good as these guys.I thought I may die in those nets at times, not so much from their bowling, but more how they smashed the ball back off of mine. Forgot to add about 1979/80

David Capel was a brilliant sportsman who helped put unfashionable Northants on the cricketing map.

Who knows what he could have achieved if he went to the "right" school?

Thank you, David, for so many great cricketing memories.

In my further contacts with the club I learnt that it's not only which school can influence a young players progress, but the size of his parents bank balance. Sad, but that's just the way it is.

Oh, gosh.  Then, what he achieved was against bigger odds.

"Level playing field"....

Us plebs have only been cannon-fodder.

If we are not dying for our Lords, then.....?

David Capel was worth more as a person, than any tosser "born overseas to diplomat parents".....
