I like Smith but am disappointed with his game input especially last Tuesday. Have no real idea why he has failed to meet expectation. All sort of issues have been raised from Personal to Poor service to style of Play. Yet he did well at Macclesfield in a desperate situation. Having seen him play at Stevenage scoring with a powerful angled header fully expected him to kick on! He really should be showing the attitude and determination shown in the past. Some posters have now accused him of laziness or worse but not sure of that knee jerk reaction. Perhaps some sort of digital encouragement might help?
I agree, if you go back to page 16 and read the thread created when he joined the club, some of the attributes fans from his old clubs highlighted have gone awol? Definitely the sort of bloke who needs an arm around him Id say?

Smith is a poor footballer . His movement and passing is poor and he can’t hold the ball up either . He doesn’t use his size or aggression to best effect and Curle hasn’t been able to improve him . His head goes in games very quickly and to be honest he is lucky to still be here .

the only bit that is right on there is the last bit. oliver was nothing but a head on a stick but for some reason people loved him - despite his terrible scoring record and lack of ability.

Oliver actually won about 90% of his aerial duals and often showed some good hold-up play. His scoring record was poor but there was a lot more to his game. Smith offers nothing.

Ok no need for figures. SOMETIMES Oliver would head the ball and it would actually go to one of our players. Smith either fails to win the ball or, occasionally, heads it to absolutely nobody. Considering this is supposedly his main quality (I haven't seen any others) he is shocking at it. Even Curle, who seems to love Smith, clearly rated Oliver ahead of him in the pecking order by the end of last season. Smith was not good enough for League Two and he is not good enough now. He offers nothing.

As it's the Swindon thread...seems their derby at Oxford United might well be off tomorrow. Some Swindon players have tested positive for you know what - though seems some doubt as to whether they are of the male or female variety!

Smith must have something, previous clubs fans liked him. Curle likes him and as a general rule I think we pretty much all accept that Curle can spot a player? Trouble is we and most clubs are never in the position of indulging players with a protracted loss of form. I personally think there is a player there, but he doesn’t warrant a start at the moment?

I agree with all that. I think some of the comments about Smith are way over the top. Don't get me wrong, he doesn't deserve a place in the side at the moment, but that's due to a lack of form rather than ability.

Agreed. He had a great game against Cardiff at the beginning of the season and did well in pre-season. His form and confidence has gone now, and he's obviously got problems at home, so he deserves to be dropped. I think having a poor year last year hasn't helped him either.

Anyway, Swindon have just cancelled their next game against Oxford as Covid has spread amongst the squad. I wouldn't if we're testing ours at all?

Hardly spread! One player who has never made a first team appearance, tested positive. He gave a lift to a first team player, who is now in isolation. PHE decided game should be postponed...the third time this season it has happened with Oxford Utd fixtures!

When we signed Smith the positive feedback from his previous clubs was all about his work ethic and energy. It’s not his ability that’s changed, it’s the fact that he now seems immobile and reluctant to do the basics. When was the last game he put in a shift and covered ground? I haven’t seen him move out of gear two at any point this season.
