A tough looking trip to Portsmouth is next on our agenda......
Pompey after a shaky start to the season have won 5 out of their last 6 games in all competitions, scoring 14 goals in those 6 games. The only blemish was a 1-0 home defeat to Doncaster in their last Fratton Park league game, they have also been beaten at home by Wigan.
Last time out they won 3-1 at Sunderland, John Marquis scoring twice including one from the spot, another former Cobbler Michael Jacobs was forced off through injury after 54 minutes though.
Pompey have won the last three games between the two sides at Fratton Park, two of those were in the League Trophy.... the last league encounter in December 17 ended in a 3-1 won for the home side, Chris Long putting The Cobblers ahead but three goals in seven minutes either side of the break won the day for the Blues. Sam Hoskins started that game, he was subbed off for Daniel Powell in the second period, Shaun McWilliams was an unused sub and is the only other current Cobbler from that game three years ago.
More bad news is that Trevor Kettle is the appointed ref for this game......his first Cobblers game since New Years Day when he handed out 8 yellow cards in the victory over Stevenage.

Maybe Kettle is good news, that his manic foul calling and random decison making will help even out a game we're likely to get tonked in?

Most of the time it’s horrible being afflicted with the Cobblers. This fixture another case in point, can’t see anything other than 3-0. Btw hope I’m wrong

With the Kettle whistling away on Tuesday maybe the result could just be decided by tossing a coin? The outcome would be the same and we'd have a better chance of winning!

After only taking 2 points from their first 3 games Portsmouth have since won 4 of the last 5. Strangely they have 10 points from 4 unbeaten away games but only 4 points from 4 home games, the only home victory being a narrow 2-1 against MK and they have only scored 3 home goals so maybe they are better on the road and we can frustrate them. However, expect nothing and you won't be disappointed.

3-0 Eh, your positivity did not last long. However I expect your comrade in negativity to do better with a 4,5 or 6.

I think even the most claret tinted happy clappers can see that we will be league one cannon fodder this season. The 3-0 Is based on my opinion that Portsmouth are starting to hit form and John Marquis is starting to play with confidence again. We on the other hand rarely keep a clean sheet and have struggled to score this season. We lack quality and experience and I feel this is a home banker.... I suggest a Portsmouth win and marquis to score at any time double. I think that bet will prove profitable.

I'm amazed that with all these different predictions, no one has come up with a 2-0 defeat, it's what we do !

Trevor Kettle has not been so prolific so far this season as in 7 games he has issued 16 yellows and just 1 red. On the subject of cards several of our players are heading for a one match ban before we reach the first cut off point of 5 yellows in the first 19 games. Watson already has 4 and Missilou, Bolger and Hoskins have 3 each. We do pick up a lot of stupid yellows for kicking the ball away etc.

1-1, still think we’re not as bad as some would have you believe and are more than capable of taking something from the game? Is it me or has the honeymoon period following the joy of last season waned somewhat?

If only Saturdays ref had have done that, Charlton would have picked up at least half a dozen yellows.
